I've never done much Turkey hunting, but I've heard a few while I was in the tree stand as I was Deer hunting. I was just wondering if you guy's who go out with the intention of taking a Turkey or a Deer during bow season use different broad heads for Deer and Turkey's? Do you adapt to what is in the woods? Like do you start trying to call Turkey's in if you hear some? Or is it just a whatever walks by the stand thing?

I shoot 100gr NAP mechanicle broadheads for turkeys, and 100gr Muzzy for deer. Was always told when I started hunting that the mechanicals were better for turkeys. Dont really know if thats the case but they really do the job.

I've never tried to shoot one with a bow while in a tree stand. Where do you try to aim? Seems like a head shot would be almost impossible. Would you try to pin them to the ground with the arrow so they don't fly off?

Just aim for the vitals. Just like a deer, they'll often run off a little before they go down, but if it's a good hit they won't go far.

Cool, thanks for all the tips guy's. One last question before tomorrow. Do you guy's do any turkey calling in the fall? I know they are more vocal in the spring, but has anyone had any success calling one in during deer season?

Actually aside from alot of gobbling in the spring the whole flock is more vocal in the fall....I like to roost em in the evening & go in right at dark making lots of noise to scatter them out. After spending all night alone their ready to get back together the next morning...kinda just mock the flock as far as calling...kee kee's & light purring & a little yelping....

I am hoping to get a kill on a big tom this year. They are everywhere this year. Last year everytime that I would pull back on a bird it would run off. But during muzzelloading season and gun season they didn't pay much attention to me being in the stand. I even actied like I was pulling back my bow, they would just look up at me. Mabey they know its a Bowtech:eek:

I saw some of the biggest turkey tracks I've ever seen this past weekend on my land. They were almost the size of my hand. I had no idea they could get that big. I can only hope that Tom will walk by my stand sometime this year.

I know a guy who is a die hard turkey hunter....During the spring he struts around like a turkey and grows a long beard! He told me the easiest way to kill a turkey is in the fall season. Find a flock and take off running into em and bust em up. Then sit down right there and start calling. He takes several people out every fall and does just that. I have never been but they say its a heck of a sight. They come runnin right back to that same spot to the calls. I don't get in to that fall turkey huntin. This time of year my neck is swellin up and I am peein on my hocks! :D:p:);)
