Im really beginning to dislike Dell comps:mad: I have two, a lap top and a PC.The laptops power supply went out about one month after the warrenty was over.Ive had to completely reformat both of them in the last couple of months:rolleyes:.This about the third time.. Spent three hours last night looking all over the net for the video card driver..Then another hour for the sound driver...In case your wondering what happened to the ones Im suppose to have I lent them out and they never found their way back home..I honestly believe that the closest I ever came to shooting anything in anger was this god forsaken computer :D

get those drivers off dell website and burn them to disk for the next time you may need them. my dell did that a few times not to long ago but haven't lately. good luck

We get new computers at work every 2 years.

They have had Dell since before I started working there 5 years ago until the last set.

HP gave them a better price so they swapped. Biggest pieces of junk that I have ever dealt with in my life. Over 80% of them had to be worked on in the first month that we had them. Some just had parts replaced, others the entire unit had to be replaced. We had 3 out of a group of 12 that bit the dust the very first week they were started up. They have been plagued with operating issues that IT can not track down ever since. They are very unstable.

Thank goodness the new batch of Dells should start rolling in in another month or two.

Only computers I've owned at home or used at work for the last 15 years....Gateway.

However...I will say I aqquired a virus on my computer at home the other day that wiped me out. It started as adware... XP/Antivirus Software kept popping up... MCaffe detected spyware...thought I had it cleaned. Then each day every program I had started acting up. Lost e-mail & internet...then desktop...stuff just dissapeared and I could not retrieve it. Finally came in last Thursday ....computer was starting up.. booting then shutting down before windows could start. Messed around with it dang near all night...finally gave up and took it to a local computer repair place last Friday.

Got it back yesterday...$120 bucks later back in business. First real computer issue I've had and was inflicted by someone else...was'nt the computers fault. Years ago...I had a modem go bad... had windows 95... so its been awhile. Might be fortunate but I've had good luck with Gateway.

Just advice to all.... update your anti-virus software.

There was a thread on here a week or so ago about that particular virus.

Yeah... I kinda remember it but obviously did'nt pay much attention to the thread. My understanding from the computer guys.... Mcafee or Nortons will not detect it until its too late. AVG... and I think MicroTrend's Hijackthis programs are your best bet in catching it. I'm sure updates will be coming out on Nortons and others.

It's definitely a bad one... I dont even know where I got it. I'm thinking an e-mail ...dont know for sure.

I think building your own is the way to go. It's very simple to do and you can pick each part out yourself instead of getting the crap power supplies, fans, motherboards, ect. that come with boxed computers.

I bought a new IMac about 2 months ago and I wouldn't trade it for 10 PC's of any other brand. No viruses or spyware to worry about, no tower, no noise AT ALL. I've had several HP's and Compaqs over the years and I never really had any trouble with any of them until they got 2 or 3 years old. When they start to go, they go quick. Getting away from Windows and all the other crap associated with PC's has really got me interested in computers. I'm now able to do things that I never thought I could before.

Yep, I had to get rid of that one myself:mad: xp anti-virus or some such...Im running AVG right now..Im no expert but I can do pretty much whatever I need other than building one..I do have a friend that runs the county librarys systems and teaches college comp courses.. He's a real pro...If he cant do it then it cant be done..Hes taught me a lot and readily lets me run thru his gargantuan library of programs/media/drivers.ect..Ive never had to pay for any kind of program or anti virus..

If you need to download drivers for a dell simply go to their website. Go to support at the bottom go to download drivers area. Put in the service tag number. It will be a white sticker on the back of your computer. It will have a number with a barcode above it and nothing else usually. If done correctly it will give you a list of drivers for your specific computer as it left the factory.

Most of my stuff is upgraded so I have to find other sources..Usually the manufacturer of said part but sometimes that is hard..

We use Dells at work and don't really have any problems with them. My sister did get a Dell laptop recently and it also had the power issue. They sent it back and got an HP Personally, I've had 4 HP's over the years and haven't had any problems out of any of them other than a hard drive going out on one that was 4 years old. Know several people that had lots of problems out of the Compaq's that were so cheap and popular a few years back.

I hate to really dump on dells because they have been pretty good to me in the past..Just problems as of late...maybe its just age and use?? Dont know..The ones at work always ran right but then they had a tech that watched over them religiously 5 days a week...The power supply problem did bug me though:p
