i just recently baught an sks has wooden stock and bayonet along with grenade launcher accesories. it has the standard 10 round built in magazine with the trap door bottom. how do i convert this to take a detachable clip...is there a kit or do i just take the trap door off? also if i was doing some varmint hunting what would be my capable range with a strongly magnafide scope.

It is dang near impossible to do. Had a friend who got a conversion manual thingy and according to it you had to cut the reciever and gring the bolt and... well you get my point.

just buy detachable magazines. 5-rounders are readily available for hunting purposes all the way up to 50 round mags. the 5-rounder should be enough for hunting. taking apart the SKS to remove the standard mag is easy. just use a screwdriver or simular device to push the latch behind the triggerguard and the action should come loose from the stock. then you'll be free to remove the 10 round mag. then you just put the action and the stock back together without the normal mag and just attach the new one afterwards. As far as range goes. I think about 200 to 300 yards is the maximum effective range even with a scope.
