I am headed to the gun shop this weekend. Probably going to buy a new gun but I can't decide what I need or want more. First here a little back ground on what kind of hunting I do. Deer- Gun, Muzzleloader, and bow. Spring turkey -Gun and bow; I shoot one in the fall if it steps out when I got my bow! I rabbit hunt and will shot a quail if I flush one. I do a little sruirrel hunting and crow hunting. And I someday in the near future plan on getting into yote hunting. I also plan on getting my CCL.
Heres what I got in mind.
Savage .204 Ruger for yote, crow and long range doe hunting.
Henry .17 HMR lever action for yote, crow, sruirrel, and what ever else.
Para Ordinance Limeted .45 ACP for CC, Home defence
Ruger single six Stainless .22 LR/22WMR for packing when I go fishing, shed, gensing, or mushroom hunting to fend off snakes. And plinking.
Taurus .17HMR Tracker for packing when I go fishing, shed, gensing, or mushroom hunting to fend off snakes. And plinking.
CVA Acurra Inline .50 cal muzzleloader cause I'm hunting with a traditional Kentucky rifle right now and I need a little more range.
Franchi I12 Raptor for rabbit/quail hunting tired of hunting with my turkey gun.

Savage, but instead of the 204 I'd go with a 22-250

My two euros: If you only have the turkey gun, get another shotgun. If you need a rabbit/squirrel whacker, go to a pawn shop and pick up a single-shot 20 gauge or 12 gauge, with a modified choke or thereabouts, that isn't totally trashed. Other shotguns are fancier but the squirrels and bunnies won't know the difference. Plus a single shot makes you shoot better.
There, I just saved you probably 300 bucks or so. Now take that 300 bucks and give it to me, cause I am jonesing for a Krag or a nice Springfield 03 and need cash. :D

I would go .243 bolt for Yotes, crows, and deer and then pick up a .38 special and load it with hollow points for CC and Home Defense and then snake shot for fishing etc.

I got a 20 Gage Remington 871 Youth in camo and a Benneli nova camo. I was looking for a good stylish semi auto. I know there is cheaper semi autos than the Franchi but my dad has one and it out shots that nova with a turkey choke in it and he only has a modifeied for his. it is an old Black magic AL12. Plus if I saved that 300 bucks that you were talking about that would give me enough to buy thet Henry .17:D

Not sure you have seen what a .17 HMR or .204 will do to a crow, leaves a mess.
A .243 will make sure he stays down and doesn't try to peck your eyes you.:)

.17 HMR will explode a squirrel, and while it's fine for a yote out to about 75 yards, that's about the extent of it's range. If I were you, I'd browse right on past them...
.204 is a flat shooting round, but it's so light it's greatly affected by wind and doesn't have a lot of 'knock-down' power. My personal opinion, don't but a centerfire smaller than .22 caliber. If you're looking for a varmint gun that you could also take a deer with, I'd look at the .223, .220 swift, .22-250 or even the .223 WSSM. The .204 can't do anything any of those can't do, and those larger calibers will have fewer restrictions on your shots than the .204.
That would narrow your choices down to the 2 pistols, the varmint gun, the muzzle loader and the shotgun. I'd decide which I needed the soonest and the most and go with that.

Well I'm down to the Taurus Tracker .17 and the CVA Accura camo with thumbhole stock. Heck I might just buy both! I haven't spent my Uncle Sam check yet, I've got money saved up and I got a B-Day comming up so I should be on the go ahead for both?

while the .204 is a dedicated varmint cartridge, & wouldn't serve you to well on the deer, It's became common knowledge that it actually bucks the wind better than the 22-250 pushing the same amount of lead (300fps faster), out to 400-450 yards. the above info. can be seen in a chart on www.6mmbr.com go to the 20 cal page

Well you just confirmed what I already knew about the .204. I said I would be doing some doe hunting with the rifle. When I shoot does I either go for the head or neck which ever feels more promising at the time. And I know if I hit her with a 45 grain bullet in the head she's going down. I have other rifles to deer hunt with so that isn't alot of concern for me anyway!

If crows & yotes are the primary target I'd deffinately go with the .204. mine is the funnest rifle I've ever shot & there amazingly accurate. good luck with which ever you choose. A man can never own too many rifles.

Well I didn't come home with anything but I got a good idea of what I'm in for as far as prices go. But they didn't have the pistol or even one like it. And they didn't even have a CVA Accura in stock. But I got to thinking Walmart sell muzzleloaders so I think I will oder it through them they are usualy cheaper anyway plus I get 10% off. I don't turn 21 till next weekend so I might go ordeer that pistol then.
