Anyone have a Ruger Single Six? Any likes dislikes? Thinking of buying a 17. HMR for plinking and to pack while fishing to take care of snakes and turtles. Anyone know a retail on one?

I have one in 22/22mag. I really like it, it shoots great, very accurate. Only complaint I have is that it is slow to load and unload. For that reason I'm considering getting a MKII/MKIII or a Buckmark.

I've got an old Single Six from the sixties, so old it had to have the retro-fit.
I never could shoot it well but it feels nice. I'd go for a 22 RF to keep cost down and it'll kill anything the 17 will and misses don't cost as much or go as far.

I've got the 22 version, and have used a Hunter model in .17. If you're getting a dedicated squirrel gun, get the .17. The accuracy in the one I used was amazing, and I killed several squirrels out to 50 and 60 yards with it (topped with a 2x7 Leupold pistol scope).
If it's primarily a utility gun, do what Trust Me said and get the .22. Lots more options on ammo, and much cheaper to shoot. I got my first one for Christmas when I was kid. Dad bought it from a pawn shop, and for some reason, it only had the magnum cylinder with it. That gun has never been terribly accurate, but it's hell for tough, just like any Ruger revolver.

first off, its a Ruger so its a fine revolver. I agree with ateup, I'd go with the 22lr/22mag version. Ammo is cheaper and either caliber will do just fine on the snakes/turtles.

I know the convertible stainless 22lr/22mag sell for around $400. the 17 cal. in probably around the same price.

That MKII is an awsome little autoloader. My dad has one with a red dot scope on top and it drives tacks. Great for coon hunting! I once seen a guy he worked with make a clover leaf with three shots at 25 yards with the open sights! By the way thanks for the help and info!
