Heading up to Saskatchewan the first of next month for some duck/goose hunting. Went to Alberta last year and had a blast. The ducks/geese populations up there include a whole lot of "young dummies" who pitch right into the decoys. These guys are all long dead before they migrate down here. Lots of those birds also haven't heard any calling to speak of. Just need a little cluck/quack to attract them.

Didn't seem like the ducks ever got to Kentucky in any numbers last year, was that everybody's experience?? We sure didn't have them, and looking at the plane surveyor's count on the Ky. F&W site, there were not too many. Are they all getting short-stopped and not bothering to come on down?

Weather!! There was alot of fuss and talk about the Feds short stopping waterfowl up north by dumping grain last year. They do dump feed but I don't think to the amount to stop an entire migration. If you look at the kill stats for the states up north, it was a banner year for them. Not because of grain being dumped but because they never got enough bad weather. I used to think when you heard a big cold front was pushing down to look out. That's mostly true but I've learned that not only do we need cold weather up north we also need snow. Ducks and geese will feed as long as they can get to the ground. If they can dig down and get it they will. Weather has everything to do with rather or not we get a push of ducks and geese. So pray for a blizzard up north and mild weather right at the Ill., KY. state line!! We'd do alright. I think we're going to have a good year. Can't have two like last year back to back.

I sure hope they come on down! Would love to kill some close to home this year. I think they get short-stopped and just hop from res to res. They learn really fast where the reservation border is.
