A 270 winchester. What is the best bullet to shot in this gun. Most of my shoots are in the woods at 100 yds. or less.

I've been shooting 130gr Winchester soft points. Relatively inexpensive and they seem to kill a deer just as dead as those $30 a box designer cartridges.

I shoot the same thing Manzanita does in one of mine and hand rolled 110gr VMax in the other.

You need to try a few different brands and find what your gun likes.

The one I shoot the Winchesters in absolutely hates Remington shells. It sprays them like a shotgun for some reason but will cloverleaf the Winchesters.

I also like the 130 gr in either winchester or the remington core-locks. Both are fairly cheap and easy to find.

My Browning A-Bolt likes the 130grn Cor-Locks from Remington well enough. Deer have been put down at ranges from 15-325yds with it.

I would get a few boxes of the mid level 130 grain loads and see what your gun shoots well. I don't think that the bullet construction you get in the high priced loads is really much an advantage on deer sized game. If you take it elk hunting, then you might want to consider one of the premium loads (in 150grain) -- but for deer a basic soft point type in 130 will get it done if you put it on target.

go to chuckhawks.com and read all about this great cartridge. I have been using 130g since I bought the gun. This seems to be the best fit for the .270. The 140g is also good if you reload. Chuck said it was like the .270 and the 130g were made for eachother. Couldn't agree more. I reload and have my Stevens shooting a 1/2moa at 100yrds with 1/4moa once in the blue moon. I use either hornady sp or sierra sbt 130g with hodgdons 4831 powder. Between 50.5-59 grains.

Just a penny for my thoughts, that's all a penny, can anyone spare some change. Gotta feed my new bad habit.

I like the Winchester supream silvertips and the Remington Core locks both have taken down many deer for me. Best damage I've seen was with the core lock. I shot a button buck just bellow the head in that little white spot while he was faceing me. When I shot him it knocked him over backwards and blew out the whole front of his neck with no exit wound. but I would say the winchesters are a little more accurate!

I am going with the winchester XP3 for now. I do not know if i am going to satay with them because of 2:00 a shot is a liitle steep but we will see how they group.

My Remington 700 ADL loves the basic Winchester 130 gr ammo that you can find for around $13 a box. I can hit the bottle cap off a 2 liter at 100 yards.
