Yes, I really did just receive this straight from the hot zone and yes, it was confirmed there before it was sent to me.
Subject: A letter from Afghanistan
Hello everyone,
As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along
that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit
to "The War Zone". I wanted to share with you what happened. He got
off the
plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the
Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram.
As the Soldiers where lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and
didn't
say a word as he went into the conferen ce room to meet the General. As he
finished, the vehicles took him to the ClamShell (pretty much a big top tent
that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights) so
he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the
opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service.
So really he was just here to make a showing for the American's back home
that he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to
make an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are
providing the freedom that they are providing for you.
I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas
Cowboy Cheerleaders than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the
President of the United States. I just don't understand how anyone would
want
him to be our Commander-and-Chief. It was almost that he was scared to be
around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country.
If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know
what kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all
fake.

If the kittens know he's a fake, then everyone should know it by now...If they don't then shame on them... He's all talk and nuttin else......He's a pawn for the Democratic party and he doesn't even realize it...Once he loses the Election, see how long they stand behind him....He'll be like a pimple on a fat man's arse......There and gone before you realize it.......
Then once he loses his Senate seat, there won't be no more noise from Obama and his loud mouthed wife......Wait and see.....

Notice the part on snopes where it says he recanted his story after finding out it was against military policy to divulge the info.

I'll let you ask the guy that's currently getting his ass shot at that verified it to be true if you want.
I'm as big a fan of snopes as anyone on here but I believe a friend that is in the hot zone and has personally spoken to people at Bagram to verify over it any day of the week.
There's not a single person that "debunked" it for snopes that sent a report from Bagram.
Do you actually even question why the guy that sent the letter "retracted" it? The person that sent me the letter has a copy of the official policy letter that was sent out stating that there could be no further comment after it broke.
Then please explain this Quacker.

I think you are correct. Half the crap my buddy is going through would probably come up as rumors on snopes....yet he is over there getting shot at almost every single day! I would believe this letter.
I saw something were John McCain was compairing Obama to Brittney Spears and Paris Hilton in that he was a made up to be more than he really was by the media.

Read the snopes report all the way to the bottom, don't stop halfway and you may get a answer to your question. This e-mail has been sent to half the world you do not have a inclusive.

..... there was more to the email that I received that I will not post on here. Believe what you want. It came to me from one heck of a valid source that has done his own research and is sitting on an Afghanistan mountain with a full auto weapon right this moment.
FYI, I read the entire snopes report and stand by my earlier post.

I don't see how this is debunked by snopes. All it says is that the guy retracted his statement and asked that the letter be deleted from some blog. Most likely becuase he violated military policy.
If Quack says it's from a valid source then whats not to trust? He doesn't usually go around poking and prodding with a stirring stick (when it comes to politics).

Interesting. . . Even Snopes doesn't claim that the guy didn't really write the letter, regardless of whether Duster thinks Quackr simply made up his story.
What I found so intriguing is that Snopes sees itself as the authority in determining whether Obama did or did not "blow off" the troops. Snopes said he didn't based on the fact that he retracted what he said, and then they go on and post a handful of letters written by some service people. Some of these letters appeared to be objective and honestly appeared to have a different take on Obama when he was there. Some of the other ones (i.e. like the guy talking about McCain playing golf with his cronies like Bush Sr.) were clearly just sent by guys that will vote for Obama regardless. A few, however, didn't appear to say much of anything at all about his visit and whether the original letter was factually accurate. Those letter made me scratch my head and wonder why in the world that Snopes would bother to include them. Makes me wonder whether the "flood" of letters they actually received was really a handful, especially considering the improbability that a bunch of military personnel overseas would actually bother to write a letter to Snopes regarding this issue.
I'm LMAO.
Snopes isn't above spining something.

Yeah, after reading through everything, an objective reporter would say it's "true" that he wrote the letter, but that he retracted it and that other observers reached the opposite conclusion.
Hell, it's not like they ran a poll to determine how many service people thought Obama blew them off.
I'm kind of surprised that they completely jumped in the bag for Obama like that.

BUSTED: This is getting quite comical now.
The only thing that is comical is that you think somebody was busted. Did you read the snopes link?
It VERIFIED that this soldier wrote the e-mail. It then goes on to say that what he did was a breach of military rules, and therefore asked to retract it. He apologized, and asked that it be retracted. That sure doesn't change the validity of the e-mail.
Its like when I punched a kid in 7th grade on the bus, right in the nose, for spitting on my little brother. The principal made me apologize, and tell him I was sorry. I did it because thats what my superior told me to do, but I wasn't sorry, you can bet your butt on that.
I am shocked that some of you debate the validity of an e-mail, because the guys superior told him to retract it.

I could say the same about you. If it's anything negative about Obama it MUST be a fabrication.
I could give two squirts which one of them it was about. I vote for the best man for the job. IMO, that doesn't exist this go around. I'm not overjoyed about having to vote for either one of them.
There are some on here that would argue their guy didn't actually assault their own mother if they saw him slap her with their own eyes.

Yeah, but I think you're original post was worded poorly. When you posted up that snopes link, you basically called Quackr out as a liar regarding where he received it and whether it was authentic. The email is clearly authentic, and the snopes article doesn't dispel that or Quackr's original source.
I agree that you can debate the merits of whether the substance of the letter (i.e that Obama was only there for a photo op) was even remotely factually accurate, but I think you went across the line a bit when you implicitly branded the messenger as being untruthful.

I have seen that e-mail in one form or another in half dozen places same e-mail in one font some in others. That throws up a red flag to me. A simple foward of a e-mail don't change fonts as far as I know. I also have seen more than once those who post in the forum use Snope's to prove or disprove rumors, thats all I did was ask Quacker to explain why Snopes is wrong. I am waiting for someone to come along and say Snopes is a liberal new's organization....:D

IMO, quacker was BUSTED, unless the original letter writer from the snopes story is quacker's buddy.
The way I read quacker's 1st post was that this was an ORIGINAL letter from his buddy. Snopes just pointed it out that this was an ongoing email chain letter ... NOT original material from quacker's buddy in Afghanistan.
He presented it as something that it is NOT and he got BUSTED for the attempted scam.

Here's the only thing that Quackr said about the letter. Hmmm. . . .let's see. He said he received it from the "hot zone". He apparently did. He said it was "confirmed" there, which obviously means that his buddy told him that it was a legitimate e-mail letter. Even Snopes confirmed that it was a legitimate e-mail letter.
You need to read things a little more carefully if you're going to starting calling people liars.

Then you read it wrong.
What I posted was part of an email from a friend currently stationed in Afghanistan... that was along with some other info that I can not post.. I never said that he wrote the thing. Why in the world would I have said that he verified what was written if he was there to see it with his own eyes?

The really funny part about all of this is calling BAF, or Bagram the "hot zone"!:D When on Bagram it feels like your on any military base in the U.S. Now should you go 12 hours south of BAF, thats a real "hot zone"!:D
Snopes needs to quell the story that BAF(Bagram Air Field) is a hot zone;)
