This picture was taken from the last day of the 03-04' season. She is a little over a year old here. If you have a waterdog, post some pics up.

My Chessie Gauge at 5 months with his first actual duck retrieve back in December, a beautiful drake buffie. Sorry for pic size, it's a little small.

Nice looking dog there quackr. I had mine retreiving doves at 8 months. Not sure how she would have done at 5 months on ducks, but at 11 it was like it was second nature to her.

I only had him out twice and both times I was alone. The pup in him won't let him sit still for very long and I've been there and done that with an annoying dog you wish someone else had left at the house.

He's a hard head but quick study.... here's his first ever retrieve at 6 weeks....[:D]

Quarkr,
If you are not already, try keeping him on a short leash while in a blind or setup. I used this to help train my dog to sit in one spot. Certainly helps out if you are hunting in a boat. Over time, they will get it without forcing them. I usually let my dog run a bit before loading up and again before setting up for the hunt. I just wish I could teach her to shake on command. [:D]

These were all taken in KS. The first 2 were at Cheyene Bottoms, the next was at my secret spot in northern KS. Thats my buddy, Buck! It sucks, since I've moved to KY 2 years ago I've only hunted him on doves. I feel he's being neglected not doing what he likes.

Don't have a boat, heard too many horror stories about the public land, ducks too few and far between, too busy chasing deer, he's a much better upland dog than a duck dog(doesn't like to sit still), and last but not least--it's too far a drive to Western KY to hunt by myself. I did get drawn for ballard my first year here but had to cancel last minute. If there was some good places to hunt close by I would definately hunt him. I rarely duck hunted in KS, but I could usually guarantee him birds when we did go. He's more impatient than me when the birds aren't flying!
