I was making some new trails yesterday trying to find a new place for a bow stand and came across a place where a gobble has been stutting within the past couple of days. 2 distinct spots where he has been circleing about 10 yards apart and feathers laying around both of them. Also marks from wing feathers dragging the ground. Is this unusual for this time of year?

I'd suggest throwing a ground blind up nearby and get your bow ready. 5 weeks til fall turkey is open. giddyup

Yeah set up your stand for the deer and a blind for the turkey who knows might just get lucky with a big buck waiting on a big tom in the blind.

I really enjoy ground blind hunting. The turkeys really don't pay any attention to them and walk by at close range. The deer are somewhat leery when they first go up but after a while they don't pay much attention to them. Plus in the winter you can put a little heater in there and keep yourself nice and warm while you glass your buddies freezing up in the treestands.

Just curious, what type/brand heater do you use in a blind?

My father in law found a clutch of turkey eggs behind his barn a couple of weeks ago. How many hatches can they have??? This is gettin' crazy...haha.

I just got a Mr. Heater portable heater buddy. Have used them before and the keep a ground blind, tent or camper nice and toasty.

My buddy and I were out the other morning moveing a few stands and clearing some lanes and we heard a gobbler sound off over the next ridge. I've heard them gobble in a snow storm? I've seen turkeys strut at some of the weirdest times of year too, but not for long periods of time like in the spring. It might just feel good to show the other birds what your working with no matter the time of the year...

yeah ive heard them in november and december while duck hunting. one year there was a jake just about a hundred yards from us up a hill from the creek. he stayed on the roost and gobbled all morning until he flew down around noon.

I watched some one year in Nov. deer gun season. There was a light rain and turkeys headed out of the woods and into a field in big bunches. Probably 50-60 hens and 12 gobblers. The gobblers seemed to be divided into age groups. There were 3 groups of 4. Each group would form up 2x2 and face each other and strut. When a bird from another group got too close all four of the offended group would run over and kick its butt. The poults were the most fun to watch. They would get in a circle and run round and round pecking the one in front of them so each one was pecking a bird and getting pecked. They would run clockwise for a while and then turn around and run counterclockwise for a while, pecking the whole time. Watched them for about an hour but decided it was time to go when the lightening started cracking.
