I want to share a story with you guys that really shows that you can't judge a book by it's cover, and there are still generous people in this world.
I went to Panama City Beach for vacation last week with my family. Every night, I went to the beach and fished in the surf for anything that would bite. The first night I went fishing, an older man and his son-in-law came down from their beach house to see what I was catching. I answered their questions, didn't pay much attention to them, and kept on fishing.
The older fella, kept talking to me while I was fishing, and had a flashlight in his hand that he kept shining into peoples eyes because it was so bright, just joking around. I didn't pay much attention to that either.
Some of the people in my party made comments about the guy later that night, saying that he was being rude and may have been drunk, but I didn't think so, I thought he was just trying to be funny.
So the next morning, I was out on the beach at 5am fishing again, and he spotted me and came down from his beach house to talk to me again. We got to talking about fishing, and he asked me where I like to fish. I said I enjoy fishing KY/Barkley lakes in KY, because that is where I live. Well, come to find out, he likes to fish tournaments there, but he lives just outside of Tulsa, OK.
After talking for a while, he invited me to go fishing with him. I asked him where he wanted to go, and he told me he had a boat chartered for two days, and I could come along free of charge. So I talked to the old-lady, and she said that she didn't care if I went, so I decided to go.
This guy took me and his grandsons out for 10 hours of fishing free of charge. I found out later, that that charter cost $1500, and he chartered it for 2 days! After we caught a boat-load of fish and made our way back to the dock and I got a picture with his party and all of our fish and headed back to the van. The man that took the picture came up to me, and asked if I wanted to buy a copy of the pic for $25, but I said no thanks as I am on a vacation budget. The guy that chartered to boat over-heard this, and ended up buying the pic and giving it to me later. I thought that was very nice of the guy, and really didn't want to accept it after he had taken me, a total stranger, out on his charter boat free of charge.
So later, I got to talking to the son-in-law, and come to find out, the guy that chartered the boat for all of us is a millionaire. He owns 6-7 companies in and around the Tulsa area, and seems to be doing very well, but you would never guess it if you meet the guy. He doesn't talk about money, and is just a good, down to earth guy. His grandsons, who are just a little younger than me, invited me to stay in contact with them and maybe do some hunting or fishing sometime at their land in Tulsa. The millionaire guy also exchanged contact information with me, and wants me to stay in contact with him to do some fishing and hunting.
I guess I am just friendly to just about anybody, and this whole experience just goes to show you never know who you might run into. I was just blown away at the generosity of this guy, and couldn't have thanked him enough.
