Does anyone deer hunt with a 44 magnum rifle? I always wanted to just for no other reason than to say i killed a buck with a 44 mag. For those who use them, how often do you lose a buck you've hit?

I used a lever action 44 mag. about 6 yrs ago. Never lost a deer. But where I hunt you can't shoot over 50 yards. I sold the lever gun awhile back. I now have a Super Redhawk that I got for valentines this year from my wife when I was on R&R and I can't wait to try it out. But be confident with the weapon. It's plenty for deer.

I hunted with a .44 Mag rifle for 15 years and never lost a deer I hit with it (20+ deer for me and 4 or 5 for my kids with this gun). It started showing some wear in the ejecting and I retired it for a .30/06. I've now lost 2 good bucks with the /06 and am considering going back to a .44 or .450 . Longest kill was 180 yds. I recommend a good solid bullets, hollow points don't exit and leave very little, if any, blood trail.

Todate I've harvested four Deer with my Ruger M-77/.44 Mag. Bolt Action rifle. NOT ONCE have I had to put a second shot in any of the Deer. Last season (in Indiana) I harvested TWO Deer with ONE shot! What happen is that I saw a large Doe, but didn't see the second Deer on her opposite side. They were around 75 yards away.

Shot placement is the key, if you put the bullet in the vitals with any centerfire caliber then you should find your deer.

There have been at least 25 deer killed in my family by .44 mags from a Marlin levergun and Ruger Super Blackhawks.

My wife has killed three bucks, two spikes and an eight point, with her 44 Rugar rifle. One shot one kill. One dropped on the spot and the other two went about 25 yds. If they had the range I would be hunting with one.

I usally take a .44 during the riflr season never killed one, my father-in-law has killed two does in the last three years with his .44. He says the thrill is much more intense killing a deer with a handgun
