Field Trials

Kentucky Grouse Hunters Assco. is sponsoring two field trials in March. March 14th and 21st, at Morgan's Creek Shooting Preserve in Louias, Ky.
These will be fun trials. There will be food on location, and a trophy for the best grouse story.[:D]

Ronnie, I'll try making one of them. Got to get old "momma" dog out one time a year. Going run her this weekend for the kids at the annual youth quail hunt.
I too had a good time up in Hell's Half Acre last weekend. Thanks to the Kentucky Grousehunters Club, it was a fine weekend.

It was good to see you boys back in this area. I hunted the same area Sat. that you guys hunted. We flew 6 and took two. I hope to see both of you along with a lot of others on the 14th. I plan on bring my young dog (11 weeks old) and introducing her to the game.[;)]

Me and my buddy is thinking about coming . Can you tell us a little more about it ? Is it one of those things with the horses ? Should newbies bring dogs ? Thanks for any information you might be able to provide.

These are just "fun" club field trials for the KY Grouse Hunters Association. They are also "foot hunting" trials...no horses and are shoot to retreive. There are no prizes, points, trophies, etc. awarded...just bragging rights. It is more of a "social hour" where we can meet, greet, work dogs and swap lies (see gsp[:D]).

Young dogs are very welcome, as most of us treat this as additional training time.

To run in the trial, you will need to join the KY Grouse Hunters Association ($12/year) plus your entry fee into the trial, normally $20-25 depending on the cost of the birds. Tim Mosley finished 1st, Bill Beers 2nd, and Mark Rogers 3rd. The scores were very close. We had 14 entries. Everyone had a great time. All you good old boys are welcome. You'll meet some great people, and have a wonderful time. If you don't have a dog and are interested in running, we'll find you a dog and a handler. We get after it again this Sunday (21st). Come on up.[;)]

You guys missed a good time this weekend. Snow was flying and so was the lead. Lee Preston finished 1st, Mark Rogers 2nd and I stumbled in at 3rd. If wheather permits our next trial will be in April.

Dangermouse, I hunted an area off 421 last year. We got caught is a snow storm, like to have never got out of there.
