I know theres not much to talk about at this point in the summer so I thought it would be interesting to share some stories of your most
memorable deer hunt.

Items such as time of year, time of day, terrain, how big was the deer, pics if you have them etc.

Mine was when i was twelve years old I remember it like yesterday. It was a cold calm morning in east tennessee on a hilltop.About eight o'clock i looked to my left and see a doe trotting right to me and being the rut sure enough here come a nice seven point trailing her.The doe ended up bringing him right under my stand for a ten yd shot and i dropped him right there in front of me.Needless to say that morning i felt like i was on top of the world. :)

my most memorable hunts are probably my first deer with my dad,a 6 pointer that came in behind us on our drag rag trail....next would be when my papaw took me on the free youth hunt 4 years ago and as he was sleeping about 10 big doe's walked into the feild,i woke him uo before i scared him to death and we got us a big doe, lol, next would def be last years hunt when my biggest deer yet came into the Primos Can and i busted him at 30 yrds while i was on the ground...but id say any hunt shared with someone else is always on top

November 10th 2005 at 10:55 A.M. in Indiana. I sat in my climber all morning seeing deer about every 15 to 20 minutes. The temperature was about 30 degrees at daylight and had warmed up to about 45. I was about to climb down and go meet some buddies who were waiting on me for lunch when all of a sudden I saw a doe run over the top of the ridge I was watching and run down into the swamp. I pulled out my grunt tube and grunted 4 loud grunts while watching the last spot that I had seen her. All of a sudden out of the corner of my left eye I saw a deer running toward me at full speed. I turned and saw that it was a shooter and got ready for the shot. He stopped 35 yards away behind a big white oak where I could not see him. He must have stood there for at least 2-3 minutes motion less. I in the mean time stood there also motion less waiting for him to make his next move. He then turned and started trotting toward where the doe ran down into the swamp. I noticed that I only had a 15 yard wide shooting lane and if he got past that I would not have a shot on him due to the brush. So I went mah with my voice just like Will Primos does on his videos and the buck stopped and looked right at me and I let the arrow fly and hit him a tad high right behind the right shoulder. He whirled around and ran back the way he came and stopped about 75 yards away and looked back at me and his back leggs went down first as he fell over and died. I sat down for a few minutes and thought to myself "wow" you have just killed your 1st pope and young buck. I climbed down and went straight to meet up with my hunting buddies without going to look at the deer. They were 2 to 300 yards away in a spot that we would meet every day after the morning hunts. One of the guys was a senior in his early 60's who has many pope and youngs to his credit and owned an archery shop for about 20 years. He looked at my quiver and said "I only see 3 arrows in that quiver how big is he"? I said I'm not sure but he is a pope and young. He said what do you mean your not sure? I said I havn't been over to see him yet and he said I was off my rocker. I said with my luck he probably would have jumped up and ran off and I never would have seen him again so I just climbed down quietly and snuck away. Ok long story short, we found him and he was a main frame 10 pointer with a 1 inch drop tine with 20 1/2 matching main beams and gross scored 140 pope and young. The funny thing was 3 days before on November 7th I walked up on a 175 class with a doe and the following day shot at and missed a 8 pointer that was bigger than the 11 pointer out of the same tree stand at 18 yards. The 175 class buck was killed on November 12th by another bow hunter who showed me the picture of it last year. :)

Three years ago, I harvested a 10 ptr that scored 140. He was nice with 11 inch tines. He also weighed over 300 pounds. I killed him in the early muzzleloading season. Even though I had tagged my buck for the year, I decided to go and sit in the woods during the last weekend of rifle season. I wasn't in my stand for 10 min when I heard the infamous buck growl. Considering it was still dark and I had never heard the growl before, it scrared me. I sat there for 5 min with this buck continuing to growl for the duration. ONce daybreak broke, I noticed a doe down in the thicket. Behind her was a 150 class 8 pointer standing broadside only 50 yards away. Sadly, I could only watch. I pulled my grunt call out and grunted. The buck continued to chase the doe up the hill. 60 seconds later, I heard a stick break. It was another buck... a 140 class 10 pointer. He walked directly under my stand. Eventually, he walked down the hill where the 8 had been previously. Then, I glanced to the top of the hill across from me and another shooter buck took off across the hill(different from the 8 and the 10 previously seen). As I sat in wonder, I once again noticed movement to my left. Another buck jumped up. This buck however was a true monster: Booner for sure. He was at least 20 inches wide with 10 plus points. So, in a 5 -10 span of time, I witnessed 3 bucks, maybe 4, come within shooting range. Plus, 3 of the 4 dwarfed my buck I had shot during the muzzleloading season.
Sadly, that was the last year I was able to hunt this farm.

My most memorable hunt had to be the evening hunt where I got my first 2 deer. I had hunted several years before and never even got a shot at a deer. I was beginning to think I never would.

One evening in November not too many years back. I was in a tree stand when 3 does walked out about a hundred or so yards ahead of me. They slowly began making there way down a trail that led right to my tree. I watched and waited for what seemed like forever (probably 10 minutes tops) for one of them to give me a good broadside shot. The largest doe of the bunch finally did just that at less than 50 yards away. I made the shot and watched the Doe run off. The two other does scattered and one of them stopped about 100 yard away and offered a shot. I shot again, and once again the Doe ran off. Not sure if I hit either one of them I went in search of the first doe and found it not far from where I made the shot. I can't describe the excitment I felt. I had finally killed my first deer. After dragging that doe out I went in search of the other doe. I found it just inside the treeline it didn't make it 20 yards. I was so excited! I had not only killed my first deer that evening but I also filled my tags. I was on top of the world! I celebrated late into the evening by the campfire that night! Heck I didn't have to get up early like my buddys did for the morning hunt. My season was over. How sweet it was!

Two members of this site that rarely post were with me that night. They are PartTimehunter and Kyhunting. They showed me the ropes to field dressing and hanging the deer in the barn. Seeing there excitement for me and having them congratulate me on the hunt made it that much sweeter. I don't think I could have made it through that first field dressing without them! Thanks again knuckleheads you probably don't know how much it ment!

Most memorable for obvious reasons: 1987. 12 years old. First day of WVA rifle season and I was sitting with my dad. At first light about 32 deer came off the hill way out in front of us. 31 does and a spike was last in the group. 100 yards. .243 Ruger M77. 1 shot. My dad was more excited than I was. He field dressed it and said, "you better watch this because it is the only one I will ever do it for you." He wasnt lying.

Most memorable bow kill: 2001. We just buried my wifes granddaddy and I had to get out of the house and clear my head. I got into the stand late. As a matter of fact I ran to it. I got there and made a scrape about 15 yards behind me and hung some Doc's buck and Extreme Heat in a tree. About 20 minutes later I looked back and a nice buck was walking along a drainage ditch about 50 yards behind me. The wind had been in my face and it suddenly changed. I grunted. He stopped and caught wind of my scent. His demeanor changed and he came grunting and the hair was standing up on his neck with ears flaired. he walked right into my wicks, turned broadside and walked right past me. 7 yards and the Jennings Airmaster with Spitfire heads hit him right. He never flinched. He kept walking and just fell over. I thought that grandpa Richard had the lord switch the wind so I could kill that deer. I believe he was in that stand looking over my shoulder when I shot that 186 lb. 8 pt. I dont know what he would score but he had a narrow rack and high points. Very symmetrical deer.

I took my 9 year old son Nic bow hunting during the Va season, we saw a nice buck at our Buddy Stand about a 150 yards from where we were. I told him that we would come back on the opening day of blackpowder and go to that stand and get him. The boy was shook up I tell ya....almost in tears, I reassured him that we would get him not to worry. On opening day of bp about 07:05a.m the buck came into range, 'bout 40 yards and Nic put the scope on him and said "all I see is hair" I said "shoot him". The buck ran 'boat 100 yard into the cutover and stood there looking back at us and about the time i was ready to give him my gun to shoot again the deer fell...this is the buck. I cried with joy!!!!!

Mine was when i killed my 130 class buck in NC. My dad and all my buddies helped me track it. Then we celebrated right there in the middle of a swamp when we found him. Dont get me wrong its nice to kill a big buck, but its about sharing it with family and friends. All about memories!!!

My first buck, hunting with my dad. I was 13, buck was chasing a doe. I shot him with open sites as he was chasing the doe running away from me, it was about a 175 yard shot. I remember shooting, and my dad saying, what the hell are you doing, he was mad at me for taking the shot until we saw the end result. We laugh about it still.

Last year the 2nd day of the Youth Season. I took my 8 year old. He'd been the year before with a lot of close encounters with bad luck or bad nerves. Watch a huge 8 pointer come and go without a shot on that beautiful Sunday afternoon in a 8x8x15 stand that my dad, myself, and my brother had worked pretty hard on. Two small 8's were nearly in range. I got him set up, clicked off the safety on one of the small 8s and then my dad spotted the big double beamed 9 coming down the edge of the cornfield. I checked him at 173 and my son said he had him with such confidence that I told him to let it go. Rolled him on the spot. It was a day I'd dreamed about since he was born. One day I'll never forget in my life. First dear grossed 152.

Sunday evening of the opening weekend of gun season in 06. I missed the biggest buck i have ever seen while hunting at 60 yards with 7mm mag. With 22 years of hunting under my belt this was the only deer I have ever shot at with a rifle and not killed. CAN YOU SAY BUCKFEVER. It is a day I will never forget.

Hunting with my wife back when we were still dating in HS. We got home from school, she went with me. We sat in a corn field that had been chopped for silage, then wheat sowed in it. We spent the evening just talking when an 8 pt. stepped out at 150 yards. I whispered, "deer". She whispered, "where?" I picked up my gun, I whispered, "buck". She whispered, "where?" Then I shot. LOL She said, "MY EARS!" I said, "MINE TOO!" The first shot was high in the lungs the deer started running towards us. I let him get to within 50 yards, then rang off another shot through the heart that put him down.

She still hunts with me from time to time, but I can't convince her to actually hunt. :)

This was from the best day ever in the woods. I've killed some big bucks but they didnt effect me at all like when my daughter killed here first deer. I was shaking so hard and could hardly talk. I wouldnt trade this hunt for a world record. It was a great day to be in the outdoors and to get a nice buck was the icing on the cake.

oops....sorry about the pict. size...thought I had it smaller

My most memorable hunt was the first time I went deer hunting with my Dad.I was twelve and did not even carry a bow.We climbed in a permanent stand in an oak in the middle of a soybean field.I sat on a limb beside him.As the sun came up I saw six does cross the frosty field.I remember asking him"Are those deer?" His response was yeah shhhh. That is the best hunt I will ever have.

Was 2003 my son's first deer a 5 pt. It was the best day in the hunting woods for me.. I killed a 180 class that year & 150 class the year before but none of them compare to his first deer.. I still get so excited for him.. This will be his last youth season in ky.. But he can still hunt in ohio until he is 17 :)

Without putting the tape on him I would say in the 180's maybe 190's. In 22 years of deer hunting I have never seen anything like him. He was seen at 30 yards by my hunting partner the following weekend after I missed him. He had already taken a buck that net scored 156 a few days before and was just out doe/yote hunting. He said that there was no doubt this buck was a lot bigger than the one he took.

About 20 years ago I was deer hunting with my dad. We were walking across a cut corn field when he said look turkey tracks. I looked around on the ground then told him thats not turkey tracks that was my tracks. He laughed all day over that one. Now we both laugh about that day.
