Just wondering when the 1st rut usually starts and when the 2nd rut comes in around the Land Between the Lakes each season?:)

Without creating arguments on the various phases of the rut I'll make an assumption you want info on increased buck activity during daylight hours.......
I personnally hunt every day from October 31st thru the opening w/e of gun season. This timeframe is about as consistent as any 2 weeks I've seen regarding buck activity. I take 2 weeks of vacation prior to gun season and hunt every day. Scraping intensifies, bucks begin to roam the woods in search of does and you see bucks start chasing does. I feel every day gets better during this 2 week period. I've killed many deer the friday before opening day of firearms season. As the gun hunters will attest, things will continue for about another week, depending on hunting pressure. Just one other comment.......hot weather is about the worst thing I've found to deter daylight activity during this period........the colder the better.

The first and second week of November is always prime time. Some years you may see more activity than others, but if you find the right spot a buck will come cruising threw there eventually. When you do see deer chasing good find a bedding area and slip into it to hunt.

LBL is going to be shut down for quota hunts during the ramp up to the actual rut. (Oct. 20 ~ Nov. 2)
I might be surprised but I would say the LBL rut is going to happen under the cover of complete darkness for the most part this year.
But, to answer your question... from Halloween until mid November, it's usually game on. The late rut is usually early December. I've seen it happening during our late m/l season. I'm normally done and whacking ducks by then. :D

Deer in western KY are monogomous(spelling...??) and don't rut. They have lifetime mating rituals that take place under the cover of darkness. They breed for life once mated. Too bad too cause the hunting would be a lot better if they had a rut in mid Nov like everywhere else, welll with the exception of the deep south.

Pretty much spot on in my experiences. I wish I could take two weeks off before gun season. You lucky Dog.

If your going to hunt LBL at that time you need to check with them, LBL has changed their rules for this year.
Like quackrstackr pointed out LBL will be closed to BOWHUNTING for most of the time around the gun hunts. Statring this year instead of being closed the one day before a quota gun hunt like they was in the past they now will be closed to bowhunting for 5 days before each quota hunt.

There is a biologist in western NY near the area that I hunt who has a huge area fenced in. He has been studying deer behavior since the late 80's and after years of research he came up with this: If you look at a calender and count the 2nd full moon after the first day of fall, this is your peak rut or as some call it "the rutting moon". He says that the 7 days prior to that moon and the 7-10 days after are what make up the rut. This theory makes sense because there are years when the rut seems late. (11/15-11/20). 2005 comes to mind for me. I was having a terrible season until 11/17. Then all hell broke loose and I saw bucks that I never knew were on our farm. So by these calculations the second full moon is 11/13 and 11/6-11/20 are the weeks when we all should kill monster bucks.;)

I will actually be hunting in Livingston county on private property this year and used LBL as a reference point.
