Just bought one of these yesterday only to find out it is a cheaper made version of a model 700. (I don't know a lot about guns, period, so forgive my ignorance.) Anyone have any experience with these? I hope I didn't buy a piece of junk. :o

If not mistaken the 770 was remingtons "Wally world" gun to compete with the lower bracket mossbergs and stevens rifles. Dont despair though some of the best shooting guns I've ever owned were cheap guns.

It should be a good shooter. After all, it is a Remington! Did it come with a scope? The key will be finding the ammo it likes. My Model 700 Likes Winchester Supreme Accubond 180gr.
FYI: Balistic chart for the 300 win mag. http://www.winchester.com/products/catalog/cfrdetail.aspx?symbol=S300WMCT&bn=5&type=31

Yes it did come with a scope -- it's a Bushnell 3-9x40 I believe. I'm not sure how good the scope is, but I'll give it a shot. I can always replace that if need be. I appreciate the link to the ammo. I'll have to give that a shot.

I appreciate the optimism. I hope it works out for me. From what I understand, the 770 was an upgrade to the 710 model that had it's problems. So hopefully, the 770 will be a little better gun, even though it may be Wal Mart quality. Actually, I had a Remington 30-06 that I bought at Wal Mart that was great shooting rifle. I only got rid of it because it had a gorgeous laminated stock and I didn't want to get it scratched up in the thorny, brushy terrain where I deer hunt. This model 770 .300 has a black synthetic stock, so it's much better suited for what I need.

The 770 is an upgrade to the 710 which I own one and the bolt is a booger. My buddy also has a 710 in 30-06 same bolt problem (binding) but swear it to be an axcellent shooter. The 770 should have a better bolt cam degree and is supposed to be smoother. Also the stock ain't they ugly grey one but black.
