Does anyone know of a 1000yd or even close to that, shooting range. Within a days drive of central Ky. I want to check my 7 mm rem. mag. at a long sure distance. I shoot in the Mountains in Eastern Ky but I dont have a range finder I am pretty good at judging distance but at that range who really knows for sure. 800 could seem like 1000 or vise versa.

Thanks
Will

Oak Ridge TN has a 1000 yard range. I am not aware of any private or public ranges locally. I shot a few 1000 yard matches when I was in the military. Very humbling experience the first go around.

The first time i shot my rifle at a very long range not sure how far I walked it off at 1100yd so it was probably straight line 700 to 800. I didnt want to shoot for a while I hit the books and changed some of my reloading procedures and built a rest and still was suprised at the wide grouping the next trip. Thanks for the info about Oak Ridge I have an uncle down there thats x-military I'll give him a call and make a mini-vacation out of it.

In EKY there are several places you can shoot 1000 yards. I would invest in a 200 dollar range finder for sure if you plan on long range shooting.

Good luck finding a range with that distance, I don't know of any. Knob Creek is only 300 yards.

If its still there, I believe Hootin' Holler in Jackson Co is 1000yds. But I don't know what it takes to shoot on there. About 10 years ago, I had a professor that shot up there a lot, but he shot black powder cartridges and played cowboy.

Give Mark Beard a call at Beard's Trading post in Liberty Ky. 606-787-5996, I think they shoot on Saturdays.

Ralph Marcum owns the Hootin Holler range. I can probably get you his phone number if you are interested in going there. He has a little old west town built there, he has hunted about everything imaginable and has the mounts displayed there. It's a neat place.
