"Earlier this year, Beshear's lawyers settled a lawsuit that former Attorney General Greg Stumbo brought against then Gov. Ernie Fletcher for naming too many Republicans to the university governing boards.

Stumbo said Fletcher violated a state law that requires the university board appointments to reflect the number of Kentucky's registered voters in the two major parties — about 59 percent Democrats, about 36 percent Republicans and 5 percent other."

To this....... and keep in mind there are only 11 seats.

"Gov. Steve Beshear appointed 10 Democrats and a Republican on Thursday to seats on the governing boards of Kentucky's public universities and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System."

I've been keeping a close eye on Beshear, more so than most and this guy is a flat out lying crook. It seems every 5 days or so he does something that I just find insulting. He's getting away with things that Fletcher would have been smeared on the front page of the Herald Leader every day for weeks on end.

In his first few months, he has been 10 times more partisan than Fletcher EVER thought about being. As predicted, the media gives him a free pass but what is even more sad is that most citizens of this state are too stupid to realize when they've be had. It's not hard to understand why this state seems to take one step forward and two steps back. It's also a shame to see how many Kentuckians are mindless lemmings who cannot think for themselves and let the media outlets control their vote.

FWIW, I see that all of the political threads are being shut down. I assume this one will be no different at some point. I just wanted to focus on local govt. rather than beat Obama or McCain to death.

Have a read for yourself.

My whole thing is not to say one party is perfect, but to address the glaring differences between what is acceptable to voters and the media when it comes to different parties.

It's scary how many people depend on a failing media to make their political decisions. Iraq is prime example, but I dont wanna start beating that dead horse again.

59 percent of 11 is 6.49 and 36 percent of 11 is 3.96. But yet Beshear appoints 10 Democrats to 1 Republican, doesn't seem to reflect the ratio of registered voters.

To be fair your math is flawed. I mean, your figures are right, but there are more than a total of 11 regents state-wide. The way I understand it, Fletcher had the appointments so out of wack with a Republican slant that Beshear had to appoint the way he did to bring the balance back in line with state law.

Oh, the old he had to appoint so many to bring the numbers into the real quota's for each party......I see, does anyone actually know the "REAL" total of Regents in the State? Seems like Political bias to me going on......

I'm just going by what I read in several articles. I too would like to see the numbers break down since Fletcher caught so much grief from Stumbo and the Dem party over his appointments. I'm sure the Rep party leaders are keeping a close eye on Beshear's appointments.

Drakeshooter, you bring up a very good point much to my embarrassment!:o

It looks as if I was wrong in my original post...I don't know how many members there are total or if the members break down to different schools. There are more than 11 as I first thought, but your guess is as good as mine as to the total number and what the percentages are repubs vs. dems.. I do find it odd that the articles I've read don't give mention to how the system works or any firm numbers involved.

I've tried to research it, like I should have done before posting, BUT I can't really find anything. I might be eating some crow on this one.

A National Guardsman returning from Iraq in Dec of last year, just 1 month after Beshear won office. Came home to find that the Beshear admin said they would no longer need his service working for the state. He was a merit employee, put in during the Fletcher admin. They fired a merit employee, the EXACT same thing that Fletcher was indicted over. The only difference, the guy won't talk at all now. Most speculate that he ahs since been paid off.
Its been said over and over on here, the ONLY difference between what Fletcher did, and what the Dems have been doing for 40 years, is that we have ALWAYS had a Dem attorney general. They have let 40 years of Dems by with getting rid of merit employees, and then the 1st Repub gov in 40 years, they ding him for it.
I expect politicians to be politicians, but what irks me most is the absolute ignorance of the Ky voters.

He better had got a BIG payoff for it because that is as illegal as hell:mad: Well Im sure they wrapped the termination up in some bullcrap excuse(other than being a guardsman). We stayed shorthanded because guardsman had to cross the pond. They all had jobs waiting for them when they came back.

Here is the link. I have no idea where its at currently, but if he did actually file a complaint, Elaine Chow, Mitch Mconnels wife and US Sec of Labor would be the one to handle it.

I'd like to see Beshear lose his Office as the Governor over this....Same crying indeed by Stumbo and as well as Beshear during his run for the Governor's Office......

But the Governor's boy Jack Conway isn't going to make a fuss over the firing........He's a Democrat as well........

You should know by now that the rules don't apply to Democrats the same way as they do the Republicans.
