Is coming up on the 4th of July.

After 30+ years of smoking I smoked my last cigarette on July 4, 2004.

I have kept a running total on the money I've saved to help others to see how much THEY can save. By Friday I will have saved a total of $10,950.00 . This is based on how much the cigarettes costed me at the time I quit and not how much they cost today. In the last 5 years I smoked I was smoking 3 packs a day and on the last day I smoked a full 3 packs and have never smoked one since. If I can do it anybody can.

Think about this. That amount of money would have paid for two fully guided elk hunts, one elk hunt every 2 years. And it all went up in smoke.

Congrats on quiting, bet you feel alot better after quiting dont you! My dad tried everything under the sun to help him quit with no success. At once he had the patch on while smoking, and inbetween smokes he chewed the gum. Then one day got fed up with it, didn't want us to be around all the smoke so just quit. He had a very high stress job with made it tough, but he quit 2.5 packs a day cold turkey.

I quit 10/20/04 but I picked up another habit,SKOAL. Being around people that smoked didnt bother me until recently and now I cant stand it, its so bad now that I can smell a cig burning from the car in front of me at 60mph on the highway

A big congratulations to you. July 10 will mark 8 years smoke free for me. I quit cold turkey after better than 20 years of smoking. It's tough to quit but it can be done.

I'm only 28 and started smoking after my divorce 6 years ago. I know I got the willpower somewhere to quit but haven't found it yet. Any tips?

The only way I could do it was to throw them away. If you have any at home, at work, in your car or garage....THROW THEM AWAY!!! I certainly know how tough it is but it can be done. Get yourself a pack of lifesavers or breath mints or whatever you like. Eat one of them every time you want a cigarette. It's not the same but at least your breath will smell better. The bottom line is you have to WANT to quit.

Congrats to all you quitters! I quit on New Years Eve 2000. The first and only new years resolution I ever kept.

The first 3 years I smoked, I smoke Non-filter camels. That's what my mom smoked. Then after that, it was camel wides then Marlboro red then lights. I too smoked 3 packs a day when I quit. Last day of March, 1996. NEVER had one since and never will. went thru a divorce and still did not. Gained several pounds since then but more to blame there then smokes. I went to dr., got the Patches (back then they were prescription only) and got off work that night, smoked the last cig in my pack, drank a beer with it and told them both to kiss my rear. Both went hand in hand with me so I quit them both. Never looked back on either. Much easier to quit smoking or drinking than to loose weight in my opinion. You can totally quit the drinking and smoking, you have to eat to live. Kinda like telling a smoker or a drinker you can have 1/2 cig a day and 1/2 beer a day. big tease. lol
