Caught this on TV yesterday and then found it on You Tube
Fort Knox gun safe was dropped twice from a 100 feet with a mossberg shotgun and glock inside. Then they set a house on fire and burned it to the ground. Then shot the safe. Guns are fine.

Get a cannon there realy nice. We have one there big as heck tho.
I've had a fort knox for almost 20 years and moved it back and forth across the country a couple times with no problems. Only issue now is it's too small :)

Don't bet on a fire safe. Buddy of mine lost all of his guns this spring to a housefire. They were in one of the fort know or liberty safes. Can't remember which right now. His guns were a total loss.

THey are only rated for so much heat and for so long. I have seen several liberty safes survive house fires with contents in perfect shape. Both liberty and Cannon are good safes, I've got a liberty now, and am getting a much bigger one when I get a house in a few years

What's another option for protecting your guns in a house fire?

I'd go with the Browning Platinum...

The best option that I know of is a vault. Eight inch concrete walls and top,and the vault doors are heavy and can stand up to a lot more heat than the safe bodies themselves. The down side is that a vault really isn't practical unless you build it into a new construction home basement or possibly an addition.

Yep. When I finally get to BUILD a house years down the road that is my plan...it will be the ultimate man room:D
As for safes, I had to take classes on them, then spent hours looking into different manufacturors and their safe building process. I'd trust a Liberty before I would think about any you see at Bass Pro or Cabelas.

If you live in a an area with good fire protection and they can knock down the fire before everything falls in the basement, a gun safe will give you some protection. If you live in the sticks and it takes a while for the FD to get to you, no metal safe will save your guns. The vault described above is the way to go.

Yep, most people seem to forget about the rating being for 30 minutes only
