I keep hearing that people are taking their unwanted horses to the WMA's releasing them. Also hear that the herds are getting to be large. Is this true or just rumor?

I have heard people mention it on here before. I can't remeber which WMA it was but I do believe it is true that people are turning there horses loose on WMA property.

I know there are a lot of horses on strip mines in eastern KY, I've not heard of any being dumped on KDFWR owned WMAs.
I would think if it was happening (and it could be)they would be relocated...
To get the answer to this one you should contact the public lands biologists.
They are feral, and should be shot. Horses and cows. They eat the preferred foods and consume a lot of resources. Buzzards would take care of them, if they are feral.

Would you need a guide license or permit to guide for horse hunts? I mean people pay to hunt (though it'd probably be more apt to say "shoot") bison, could hunting horses be much different? I'm sure there's someone out there with more money than common sense who would pay for that.

Would it be legal in Kentucky, for KDFWR or private citizen to "euthanize" a ferral horse on a WMA???? private property????

I would say they would be easy for them to feed then trap them, People would come from miles to get a free horse, of course they would have to be vacinated and checked by a vet then the state would have to be reimbursed for their expenses, aw crap just shoot them and save us the money!!

The Peta groups shut down the horse processing plants. There's no market for the average horse. People don't want them, have to feed, board, and tend to. If you don't have an A-1, perfect animal, the market is worthless. JMHO!
I don't know about the WMA, but I would think it would not be allowed. Look at what the WMA stands for, WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA. I don't see any livestock in those three words.:D
