Any suggestions on stripping and refinishing a gun stock?
The pistol grip is checkered and I am concerned on getting it stripped & cleaned with damaging it.
Thanks

Go to Wal-Mart or the local hardware store and get some "Dad's Easy Strip". Coat the stock with the stripper and let it set for 10-15 minutes, take a light Scotch-Brite pad and put a little of the stripper on it and work with the grain of the wood. That will usually take care of the old finish pretty quick, if not, rinse with water and repeat the above.
As for the checkering, I use a stiff bristle toothbrush to work the stripper into the checkering as well as to help clean it out afterwards. Just go slow and take your time.

Toothbrush only on the checkering. I cover it with masking tape when I'm doing my steel wool and sanding. When everything else looks good, take the tape off and brush the stripper in the checkering.

This would work great, esp with the checkering

If it has any dings in the wood get your cloths iron hot put a damp wash cloth over the ding and place iron on top. it will pull the dings back out.
