I would like to thank everyone for the help and advice on a lever gun i eventually went with the 1895 45-70 i love shooting it. the sales man told me that the heavier the bullet the harder the recoil i bought some 300 grain winchester rounds for it and loved shooting it ....felt about like a 12 ga what i didnt know is that 25 grains made a big difference 3 shots and i was hurting i would hate to shoot those hot and heavy loads .....but that is something im sure ill get used to lol thanks again everyone

your welcome and congrats, I hope you enjoy it for many years. If you get into reloading the recoil problem can be solved easily. I have a good friend who turned 80 in january and has had the "zipper" he shoots his guide gun very often with his reloads which are very mild and fun to shoot.
