I"m so tired of getting skunked at Tville. Maybe I just need to start fishing for gills there but.
What I would like to get help on is fishing for whites/hybrid and crappie.
This lake is getting plenty of age on it so I know the fishing has got to be getting good if not prime for more than just bluegill.

I'd love to help, but the only fish I can seem to catch are 3-4 inch gills/suncracker/etc.
We've had a bit of luck on cats the past two years, mainly by jugging for them. Lately, though, they've been in the shallows, and we're catching them on live bait...worms, mainly. Last three channels we brought in were on live bait, and in 2-3 feet of water. Some were full of eggs, too.
I've caught exactly ONE crappie there, but don't usually get out during the spawn much (i the middle of turkey season, and I'm usually in the field when I get a chance to get out at all)
I've caught a couple of bass there, but none worth keeping. Lost one last week, though, that had me upset. Line broke right as I got it to the boat, and it was at least a 3-4 lb fish. Biggest I've ever caught, honestly...wish the line hadn't snapped. If it had waited 10 seconds more, my wife would've had the net up and ready for me. I've since respooled that reel with new line (14lb this time), so hopefully that won't happen again.
Of course, my problem may be a lack of a good boat. I've got a pontoon, which ain't bad, but I don't have a trolling motor. That means I've got to try and get near some good spots quietly, and that's hard to do using a big motor. Then, I've got to anchor out, and that makes a good bit of noise, as well.
And then there's the kids on board. We don't have much in the way of child care right now, so I'm always out with 4 young kids, ranging from 10 months to 8 years. It's great to get them in the small panfish just to get them excited about fishing, but does make it hard to do any "serious" fishing.
So, that's why we just started jugging for cats. I've got 3 dozen we throw out in the mornings, and then retrieve them a couple/three hours later. I'm happy if I can get 10% of my jugs with fish on them. Lately, that's not the case, though.
I may start launching at Van Buren or Chowning Lane, and trying some different coves, since we seem to have no luck at ones we've previously caught fish in.

We fished chowning Sunday night with noodles and only caught 8 fish in 4 hours. I think there has been a little to much jugging on that lake. Every time I have been down there you will see 3 or 4 groups jugging. I'm not saying it is wrong but it is taking it's toll.

When I first started jugging the lake 4 years ago you wouldnt see anybody else doing it and we always caught alot of fish but the last 2 years you will see 3 to 5 groups and the fishing just doesnt compare the the past. Its getting way over fished in my opinion.

That is an understatement. That place has a ton of boats! Fished Saturday with my son and everyplace we stopped to fish you could easily count 15-30 boats of all kinds and shapes in either direction. We probably caught 20-25 bass and one big crappie. Typically this time of year, I can usually catch twice that.

just fish off the points deep , it can be alittle slow at times but thats where you will find the biggest bass this time of year.and most move into deeper water this time of year to keep there brains from getting beat out of them on the banks from all the waves and boat traffic..less pressure and stress also.for the fish that is

Shogan - You need to be sure and take your daughter fishing with you. I know she can catch fish!

Got into the white bass yesterday under schools of shad; unfortunately, no size to them. I was assuming they were small males with the bigger females laying underneath the schools of shad, but no luck. Between a few of the bigger ones and a 2 lb. channel cat that was on a jug that my daughter talked me into throwing out when I snagged a shad with my rooster tail, I was able to squeak out a mess for the frying pan!

My oldest son always has good luck on catching the white Bass on either a chartreuse or purple 1 1/2" curly tail grub on a Beetle Spin with about a # 2 size Colorado blade. Also I usually throw a Rat-L-Trap in and around the schools of shad and usually catch some nice decent Hybrids and nice 14" to 15" White Bass. I let my Trap sink about 10' or more before I start reeling it back to the boat. Them bigger fish are a little deeper than the small fish. Good Luck

Actually, I would prefer some company so the next time I go fishing rather than a family outing I would have someone to help me clean the livewell full that we are bound to catch!
