Have any of you tried them? I have my cricket cage loaded with about 75 of the things for the morning. Maybe the bluegills will tear them up...going to Taylorsville lake.

Been wearing out the carp for the last 3 weeks with fly rods and cicada patterns. IMO it is the most a man can have with his clothes on.

A close friend of mine got a report from his friends whom fished Barren the other day -- late in the day they saw fish eating the locusts off the surface next to a rock wall -- so they gathered some and used a small splitshot to slow sink them -- they loaded the boat with catfish and some up to 8 lbs -- I have seen this before while I was fishing, so yes they are good bait

Very good bait unless 1 of 2 things happen:
1) it is late in the cicada season and there are 100s of them on the water. I think that the fish eat their fill
2) I am the one fishing with them.

Went fishing with my brother and cousin using cicadas. I didn't catch a darn fish. They were pulling them in left and right as soon as their cicada hit the water. I didn't even get a bite. The really funny part is one of them came up next to me and flipped their cicada out right next to mine and POW! They caught a fish.

Did the exact same thing two days in a row at Barren. We (my father and I) put in at the Narrows and never got out of site of the ramp.:D We filled the boat with catfish and caught some large gills and quite a few bass that went over a pound to go with 'em.....:D

we wnt bowfishing at barren last night, figured we would throw out some jugs while waiting on darkness. Put out 40 with about 15 baited with cicadas the others with liver. Only caught 2 fish in about 2 hours both on liver. None of the cicadas were hit. We also never shot any fish. only saw 2 carp and 2 gar. It was a pretty crappy night on the water til we found a cove loaded with frogs. We spent an hour shooting at them, only hit 2..... lol

I was on a creek last weekend and saw a few here and there flopping around on the water. I kept watching them to see if anything ate them, but I never did see them taken.

I posted this before, but back during the cicada fest of 7 or 8 years ago, a buddy of mine was freezing them in big ziplock baggies. He had half a deep freeze full of 'em and claimed they would wear out catfish and keep for a very long time in the freezer.

Did you have something on your hands, like oil or sunscreen?

I have heard of people freezing them also. I used them once and they worked. One floated at the top of the water buzzing his wings and he got HIT!

I went Tue. morning at Beaver lake and caught over 40 bass and a nice mess of gills. The size bass we caught were from 12 - 14 inches long. We sure had fun. locust or cycade is a very affective bait. We tried minnows, chicken liver, and worms but cycade was the best bait by far.
