Grousegal and I will be travelling to Breaks Interstate Park this weekend for the League of KY Sportsmen Convention. We don't plan to attend any of the banquets, etc., just the business meeting and the Conservation Officers Association Hospitality Room:cool:. We will be staying at the Lodge at the Park.
I've not been to that area since I was a child, and was looking for some recommendations for attractions, restaurants, things to see/do, etc. that are within reasonable driving distance or the Park itself.

The Ky record elk is in the Jenny Wiley lodge (impressive) they also have elk tours and elk buffets from time to time, not to far out of the way.

How far is Jenny Wiley off of US 23? We will have basically all day Sunday to come home from the Breaks to Grayson, and Jenny Wiley could be a good lunch spot.

There are 4 seperate entrances to the park. If coming us 23 from pikeville take the 1st prestonsburg exit (rt.80) and just follow the signs to the park, can't miss them they are everywhere and its a straight shot from rt.80 (no turns). Only 4 or 5 miles from us23. The downstream area behind the dam is very nice, relaxing, shade trees, fishing, grills, ect and only a few miles from good ole butcher holler.

I've not seen any estimates for this year, but I figured it would be a sparse year attendance-wise, since there appears to be few (if any) controversial issues and its being held in a district on the extreme eastern edge of the state, which makes it a pretty good hump for those in west-central and far-western KY with gas @ $4/gal.
There will also be a huge empty hole left from Wayne Caudill's passing ... he was one of the true "characters" of the League (and I say that with the utmost respect) ... I know I'll miss the man, his perspective and his stories.
