and has been out for 15+ hours now due to the storms. I'm losing all of my deer meat, all of my perishable groceries etc. The wife just bought $200 of groceries on Monday. It is all going to have to be thrown out. Duke energy said that our neighborhood may not have its power restored until Friday or Saturday. :(
I guess it could be worse. A tornado could have leveled the house etc.

That stinks.
I went through that myself 3 years ago. I managed to salvage what was in my deep freeze because I had been freezing 2 liters and gallon jugs of water for use later on in the summer. All of that ice kept my stuff frozen for 3 days.
I had to ditch everything that was in the fridge that I couldn't put in coolers.
We were the last ones to get our power restored because the problem was a downed tree in one of my neighbors' backyard. That tree only affected the people on my street so we were at the end of the list.
Temps are supposed to be in the low to mid 90's here for the next several days, too. I feel for you.

Just don't open the freezer, I have heard of the stuff being able to be saved as long as it stays closed. But not sure exactly how much longer your stuff will be able to be saved...... sorry about the loss of the food and game meat, will your insurance company pay for your loss's? Check to see if your covered for power failures on your policy....

Mills is right.
You would be amazed how long a deep freeze will keep things frozen if you don't open it.

Had no power for four days a few years ago. Only opened the chest type freezer twice, once on day 3 and once when power was restored. The stuff on the very top was just a little bit soft but actually still frozen. The farther down I went the harder everything was. Didn't lose anything, thank goodness. Hope you won't either. The fuller the freezer, the longer things will stay frozen.

Throw a couple quilts over the freezer and hope for the best. I lost everything in an extended power outage in 92 or 93, and I fired up the charcoal grill and just started cooking. I didn't quit until all the stuff ready to spoil had been grilled, fried, boiled, etc. I fed everybody in smelling range.
It could be possible to beg/steal/borrow a small generator and run it for an hour or so here and there throughout the day. That might be enough to keep the freezer and fridge contents safe. Maybe you could throw everything in boxes and rush it to friends/neighbors with some extra freezer space.

IF the freezer has some room in it go buy 20lbs dry ice, put it in then cover the freezer with a couple quilts like Trust me was saying. Just make sure to keep it closed. Use regular ice for the fridge stuff. Hopefully you can make it thru. ;)
