View Full Version : Mower Question

I am looking at buying either a rear bagger or a pull behind lawn sweep for my mower. My old mower had a bagger so I am familiar with how they work. But my question is about the lawn sweeper. Has anyone ever used one? Do they work very good? One of my concerns is that you can't offset it behind the mower, (a least not the ones at Lowes) and since a mower blows everything to one side I am assuming you have to go over your yard again after you mow. With gas the way it is that would get expensive. My grass grows so fast and thick that when I am done mowing my yard looks like a hay field. And I use my grass clippings to mulch in my garden. Any advise or input would be greatly appreciated.

I have one, and yes you have to go back over it and sweep after you mow.

We have one also, I really like mine because I will put the mower in high gear and can go over it real quick and sweep it all up.

You can get baggers real cheap in downtown Cincy right now. They are on every corner. I'm not exactly sure how you determine if they are a rear one or not. Is that by how they approach you to ask for money?
I'm not too sure they would like being pulled behind your mower though. You must have had one tough bagger.

I've used both and rear baggers work but if your mowing a big area...seems every round or two you spend all your time dumping. I bought a sweeper (48") and it holds quite a bit before you have to empty. I like it better than a mower mounted bagger.
The grass needs to be dry for a sweeper to work well. When I do plan on sweeping... I mow and try to wind-row my discharge. By the time I'm done mowing...usually the grass in areas I first mowed is dry enough for the sweeper to pick-up.

Thanks for the inputs guys. Yeah I had to empty the old bagger about every other trip around the yard. That is why I was thinking about the lawn sweep for my new mower instead of a bagger. I guess neither one is perfect so I think I am going to go with a sweeper this time and see how I like it. I have mastered the windrow technique so I guess I won't have to go back over the whole yard. Plus I hate having to drive to Downtown Cincy every weekend to get a new bagger. They just get all pissy when I drag them around the yard. And I can't use it for anything else. :D:D:D
