What kind of effect will the rain have on the chics that were just hatched out the past week? Do you think it will drown some?

Drown? No, but "freeze" to death yes.

i agree from what i have read cold, wet rain doesnt do them any good at all
but it seems to be warming up so hopefully they will be able to survive based on this years season i could use a few dumb ones to hunt they sure gave me a lesson this season

What we didn't want is cold rains when poults are a couple weeks old and roosting on the limb. Hen will "shelter" small poults under the wing, when small.
Earlier during hen nesting period Ky experienced a lot of heavy rain and flooding which may have lost us some early hatch. Good hay production season, like farmers are having, may have the biggest impact on hatch success than anything else.
However, right now, for birds that have already hatched, Kentucky is currently experiencing good poult survival conditions . Warm weather, good forage production, LOTS of insects (cicada) for poults to feed on. Going to be heavy fruit( blackberry, wild cherry)
producing year in many areas.

The weather in Ky has been I think great weather for poults this year. Mid 60's and the past few nights has been upper 60's. And I agree with the way things are looking that the fruit crops and insect population is going to play a big role in this years hatch

rain is good and bad: the delayed hay mowing due to wet field s will help some;.a lot of hay in south central Ky hit the ground in last few days. The cold wet rain is the killer on the young ones.

We have have had a light hatch in the cicadas here but it has been a great year for everything else, the blackberries are blooming like crazy, I have high hopes for the coming year, the does are droping also, we were seeing several hens with poults before the rain, but after we have seen hens in the same area at the same times but no poults, like they were all gone, may have not been the same hens, or they have changed their habits, hopefully they were O.K. you guys have set me a little more at ease.
