How do you mark your name and address on your lines? I have been using duct tape and a magic marker and just double the tape on the line but is there a better way that I'm not seeing?

Also, are a$$holes these days so hard up for food that they go around stealing fish off limblines from kids? One of my kid's favorite things about camping at the river is setting limb lines and jug lines. Last Sunday morning I woke up about daylight and some river rat was coming by lifting up the jug lines that the kids had set the night before right out front of camp! He didn't see me so I yelled "Good Morning" to him. He waved and went on up to the dam but only stayed about 20 minutes before he came back by at full throttle. I woke the kids up and we went in the canoe to check our lines. They were super excited, until we saw about half our lines had been cut either completely off the branch or about 6 inches of line was left. The only lines that were safe were the ones I had hid under water. I guess I'm going to have to hide all of them next time. It became a good lesson to them that you gotta hide your lines... Wish I'd been in a boat I would have at least liked to seen what we caught.

I would contact the local Conservation officer in the area that you fish and tell him/her the situation. The next time that I went I'd call them and ask them to keep an eye out.

I use the same thing. I use copper trap tags on my trotlines but like you said limb lines get stolen easy so Id rather loose a piece of duct tape than a copper tag. I had one trot stolen and one cut last year.

I stopped trot lining after going back early the next morning and my what I thought was hiddin very well line had been cut off at both ends -- had to have been someone night fishing a crankbait and hit it then done the damage because this one was set close to dark with no one around -- i used to tournament fish and have caught into lines but I just retrieve my bait and lower the line back

I don't limb fish much...but can't imagine someone cutting the line. There have been times in my life that I've seen one dancing while bass fishing and HAD to see what was on it....but never have I done any more than look. Many times I even found a big snapper that I left for the owner....just because I won't cut what doesn't belong to me!!

Last time I did any limbing...we wrapped trail markers (for finding your tree stand) on the branch and went and got them about an hour before daylight. Maybe that will beat the idiots from cutting the line for no reason.

You'd be surprised how some can't seem to help themselves, kind of like walking up on a tree stand or camera in the woods-------can't just leave things alone. That being said, if you want to set limblines or trots and expect them to be there(and not be stripped of fish), you better take some of your woodsmanship skills with you and hide/blend them in where they don't stick out like a sore thumb. For trot lines, my suggestion would be to tie them off under the surface or anchor the beginning of the line about three feet off the bank. Same for set lines or log lines, tie them off under the surface.Good luck.
