Guys i went down to our creek that i have fished in for years and i found alot of dead fish. Most of them that were dead were white perches and i didnt think much of it b/c we dont eat them, but i saw a small bluegill and that kinda got me worried. Then as i was fixin to leave i stepped on another fish, after cleaning it off i saw that it was a largemouth bass. Not only a bass but about 16in. 2-3lbs. This really worries me. Any thoughts on how this happened. The creeks is Muddy Creek in Butler County (runs through Logan as well)

Fish cold have got killed by run-off from pesticides and other chemicals put on crop fields in the area. I would call the KDFWR if you find more the next time you are there.

1-800-252-5378 is the number to call for Fish Kill
Is there a bridge close by? Years ago we had a major fish kill on the farm I grew up on. The creek was in the headwaters of elkhorn and it practically killed everything in it. One of the neighbors was stopping by the bridge about every morning to fill sprayers. The next time they did it they wished they hadn't because I'd called everybody but the DEA on them...

Alot of people call crappie "white perch" , however a true white perch is a member of the bass family.

Those are just old backwoods names that people didn't know what they actually were. For some reason, people call evereything a perch these days which is totally wrong.
Now look, a perch is not a member of the bass family in any way shape for form. The Perch family include a logperch, walleye, sauger, and yellow perch in KY. A Bass is in some type of bass family Black Bass or Temperate. A drum is not a perch either but people call them a perch, just a nickname. But if I was ya'll, I'd get their actual names down pat first before using the nickname so their isnt any cunfusion. :D:D:D
Oh yea, Crappie are in the Panfish family.;)

Mr. know it all:
White perch
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
White perchhttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/83/Whiteperchnctc.jpg/250px-Whiteperchnctc.jpg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Whiteperchnctc.jpg)
The white perch, Morone americana, is not a true perch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Percidae) but is, rather, a fish of the temperate bass family Moronidae (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moronidae), notable as a food and game fish in eastern North America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_America).
Generally silvery-white in colour, hence the name, it has been reported up to 49.5 cm in length and weighing 2.2 kg.

If you'll keep reading, you'll find they're not in KY.

EXACTLY.
Notice I didn't name every species of Perch but only the ones in KY and honored as a state record and I did forget one, the Saugeye.
But no White Perch in KY
I don't know everything about fishing but I tend or like to think I do and in this case, I'm right.

dang i didnt know i was gonna start an uproad about perches and drums.
On the other hand another guy had 3 gamewardens from warren and butler co. come check out the creek. they said since we had just had a big rain that the atrazine from crop grounds along the creek had ran off the grounds into the creek. i do believe the game wardens some what, but i thought atrazine and a-trex was enviromental friendly. so i called one of our local fda (federal dept. of agriculure) and he said that the chemicals shouldnt hurt the fish. so who knows. I just feel really sorry for all the fish. Its not their fault they are all dying.
