Gang, now is a great time to take someone fishing, especially a kid. The weather is nice and the fish are a biting. There is no better time than right now to take a young person fishing. Took my son out on Saturday and we boated 150 bluegill & crappie. We had a blast! We went back yesterday along with my nephew and boated another 90. Several other reports on here of people wackin 'em also, especially the bluegill.

Good luck and take a kid fishing!:D

Marty,
Great report. I used to take my boys and daughter bluegill fishing this time of the year. They would count every bluegill they caught and would battle to see who caught the most. I used to agg them on to try to get it more competitive and would sit back and laugh when my daughter would take the lead or win. They would want to go back the next day, they had a blast and lots of good memories.

This weekend is the last Legacy tournament for Kentucky. Fish one of these and you get an automatic bid to the three regionals for a shot at a New Triton. The legacy series for Fishers of Men is great. It is strictly an adult/jr bass tournament. It will be held on Barren. For more details check out www.fomntt.com (http://www.fomntt.com) and click on legacy. The kids really get catered too with give-a-ways and door prizes and you'd think they won the bassmasters classic to when they take there fish to weigh it in.

I took my little cousin out this weekend. He is CRAZY about fishing. He has been wanting to catch a "quality" smallmouth for about the last year. While every other kid is watching cartoons the kid is watching fishing. I didn't know any spots on Cumberland to take him so I took him to cedar creek Sunday morning trying to catch a big largemouth. I have about 5 spots that consistantly produce quality fish. We had struck out at the first 4 spots. At my last spot on his 2nd cast he hooks up with a MONSTER bass, I saw it come up to the top and it had to be at least 7.5. It jumped twice and on that second jump it threw the bait. He was absolutely devistated. On the verge of tears I convinced him to keep fishing. I made 2 or 3 more casts and hooked up with a 6lb 2 oz Largemouth (digital scale) and realeased her back where she came. He is still a little mad that I released her, he wanted me to mount it pretty bad. I am not a bass fisherman and don't really care about that kind of thing, but he wants something to mount so bad I think he would swim across Cumberland for it. I tried to teach him the importance of persevering even when things don't go your way. I thought it would be a good idea get some fish into the boat so I ended up taking him to a spot I had seen Red Ears nesting. We caught our limit of them and headed to the house. All of the red ear were transplanted in my grandfathers pond (where he can catch them later). He is still wanting that small mouth pretty bad, and I may take him for his birthday if I can figure out where to go on Cumberland. It ended up being an excellent trip and although he didn't get that big one to the boat he will always remember the big'un that got away.

Dave,

Yep, that is exactly how it went down. We had a little contest for the first, the most and the biggest. Rippin and snatchin!:D
