A lot of people seem to poo-poo these things on the net, but I'm liking the ones I have. My first was a 50 cal NEF muzzleloader, which was so light and fun to shoot that I picked up a Handi in 30-06.
Took my new Handi to the range for a couple hours this evening, and the first two shots got my scope sighted in. The next three printed a nice little 100 yard group that looked roughly 1.5 MOA. And that is with crappy Russian steel-cased ammo I've had laying around for several years. The Handi shot a better group with that junk ammo than any other 30-06 I've owned.
Only downside is the Handi is so light that 30-06 kicks like a mule in it. If I had it to do over, I'd go with a lighter caliber. But I think it will make a great carrying gun. After I shoot up my crap Russian ammo I'll try reloading for it.

I bought my daughter a youth-handi in 243 several years ago. It was a combo that also came with a 20ga barrel but the shotgun barrel has seen very little action. The 243 barrel is a bull barrel and overall its a tack driver. I've been impressed with accuracy and shes taken several deer with it. She likes it so well... I dont really forsee her wanting to upgrade to a bolt action or different calibur anytime soon.
Fact being... I've been tossing around the idea of buying myself one in 17HMR.

I have a 30/30 and a 12 ga and I almost always deer and turkey hunt with it now. I don't need anything more expensive or HEAVY.

I also purchased a 30-30 for my son to use deer hunting last fall, very nice rifle. I picked up a 12g w/a full choke for him to use this spring to get his turkey. I am now really wanting one for turkey hunting due to the weight savings. I wouldn't hesitate at all to get one. There several forums at www.go2gbo.com/forums//index.php (http://www.go2gbo.com/forums//index.php) for these. Lots of good information.

I'm a member over there too, don't post much. Tons of good information and mostly nice people but they have the crappiest forum software of all time, and WAY too many ads that you have to sift through. Its a good site (one of the most info-packed I've found, for many different kinds of guns) but is such a pain to use I don't hang around there much.
