My son's birthday is in March, so next year we will be able to buy a youth sportsman's license for him if we purchase it before his birthday. However, he will be 16 when the youth turkey weekend rolls around in April. Will he be able to hunt that weekend or not? I guess the same question would apply for the youth deer weekend in October and the free youth weekend in September. I can see how he couldn't hunt, since he will be 16, but since he will legally be able to hunt on a youth license during the whole year I could also see how he could be considered legal for youth hunts.

The guide states that the youth weekend is for hunters that have not reached their 16th birthday by the hunt date.
So even though he could have bought that license he can't use it on the youth weekend. He will also need a fishing license and/or waterfowl and trout stamps if pursueing those.

That is my understanding as well. My youngest son turned 16 in April, bought a youth sportsman's license, hunted youth turkey, but will not be able to hunt youth deer weekend(Oct). My question is: Does he need to buy a fishing license?

My understanding on the license has been that if someone is not 16 they can buy and use the youth sportsman's license throughout the whole season. I have assumed that includes fishing, but I'm not sure.

When he turns 16 he will need to buy a fishing license.
