So we had a little competition Sunday

Me and the boss had a little competition going Sunday. After sleeping all night Saturday night in the rain at the cub scout campout he had the advantage.

His fish---6lb 2 oz on 4 lb test line

My fish---:) I'd say he went at least 5 (inches that is)

My excuse was that I was crappie fishing anyway. You gotta turn your head sideways since I can't figure out how to rotate the picture. To give you an idea, the first row of crappie all went 2 lbs each.

We fished from 10:30 until 7:00 and caught at least 200 fish each. My hands are so sore and cut up I could barely make a fist this morning. At 5:30 we said that we'd cast at the same time and the one that didn't catch a fish on the cast was the ultimate loser for the day (he's practicing for the bass tournament circuit so he's working on his trash talking). We stood there from 5:30 until 7:00 and caught a fish each on every cast, me with my 4 wt fly rod, him with a spinning rod. He ended up catching 3 bass over 5 lbs but was most proud of the 6 pounder that he got on his little ultralight rod and 4 lb line. I ended up catching the last fish, of course he was half way to the truck when I ran back and caught it!

Nice mess of fish -- would of been neat to have had your son on video with the bass -- congrats on wearing them out

Great job, you've got him hooked for life.... By the way, I bet if he asked you to, you'd of stayed an hour longer..... Nuttin like takin a kid fishin for sure......:)

I was looking for line class records for the junior division but can't see the records for KY but they are in my IGFA book so I will look tonight and if your interested you can send an app in to see if he qualifies. :D:D

That is awesome! It is good to see a kid his age that interested in fishin. Has the fish grown any since that day? I bet he'll weigh 10lbs by the end of the summer:D

Thanks everybody, he was pretty jazzed about me putting this on here. Especially after he got to show off his turkey a couple of weeks ago (if you haven't seen it go to the turkey forum and look for my post).

Thanks MasterB, I'd like to see the application when you find it. I told him about the link you sent and he's hurrying up to eat dinner so he can research it. That kid gets a world record you won't be able to get his head in the door.

I would have stayed another hour but dang he wears me out (definately in a good way!:D) Most kids are ready to quit in an hour if they aren't catching anything. There's been a bunch of times when I've rolled up in the shade and he's still churning the water when I wake up, waiting for the bite to start.

Does anybody know of any bass tourneys that kids can fish in? I don't like bass fishing much myself, I'd rather catch catfish or stripers or carp, something that will pull some drag but he's all over some bass fishing. Oh well, it could be worse, he could like baseball or football...

Well I just checked my IGFA book all the Junior World Records are VACANT for KY. How old is he? They got Junior and Small Fry depending in age.

Here is the application to send out. Since the records are vacant, that means if the line tests are higher than expected like in my case, they would bump him up in the next line class, he would get it.
