Picked up a new rifle today for $50.00, a Winchester model 290 .22 auto. It's in excellent condition, the only scratch on it is one place on the stock. Bought it for my nephew, would like to keep it for myself but he needs one. Was wondering if anyone could tell me about this model and what book value might be?
No idea of the value. The very first gun I owned was a 290. My dad bought it for me to squirrel hunt with in 1966.

I don't have the most current gun trader book but the one I have lists it as this:
Winchester 290 Deluxe- Same as model 290 Standard Rifle, except has fancy walnut Monte Carlo stock and forearm. Made 1965 to 1973. Value~$120
Winchester 290 Standard Semiautomatic Rifle- Caliber: 22 Long or Long Rifle. Tubular magazine holds 17 Long, 15 L.R. 20 1/2-inch barrel. Open rear sight, ramp front sight. Weight: about 5 pounds. Plain stock and forearm on early production; more current model has checkering. Made 1963 to 1977. Value: With plain stock/forearm~$125, with checkered stock/forearm~$130
Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me that the standard is worth more than the deluxe, but that's what it says.
