I'd say anytime now you can catch the turtles don't know about the egg part --- and I'm with you on the frog legs -- season opens today :D:D

Don't know what size hook but holds a gobb of beef liver or bluegill head. Then i use a piece of wire for a leaded and and nylon string 6-8ft long and then tie it to the bank with whatever. Why 1377 you got a pond?

I cant keep turtles of my trots. Cut gill and chubs. In one stretch og Dewey lake I catch as many turtles as I do catfish on average.

Man on the way home from the store a couple of days ago..I spotted a big ole snapper about the size of a hub cap sittin on the yellow lines of the road. I went down and turned around and came back and grabbed it by the tail and walked over and released it out of the road. If I would have known anyone who wants them. I usually find at least 4 or 5 bigguns during the year. Anyone want one let me know and I'll save them for you as long as you come and get them......:)

I made a good living for a 10yr old kid selling turtles and turtle meat. I mainly sold them to one guy that resold them. Theres no telling how much that guy made off of me...but Ive got the memories.

So you're the one who keeps moving her(the turtle) to the wrong side of the road. I bet you set them on fence posts, too...:D

Turtles should be on right now. The females will be laying eggs now or in the next few weeks. If you find one with white eggs in her just put them in a little box with some potting soil over them. Keep the eggs moist but not wet and in a couple months you'll have you some more turtles, we hatched out 60 something last year from females we had cleaned. That's why you see snappers crossing the road this time of year, they're sure there's a good place to lay over there. If you hold them by the back edge of their shell and feel up around the front of their back legs (have somebody else holding a stick in their mouth while you do it!) you can feel the eggs in there, feels like ping pong balls. That way if she hasn't swallowed the hook or whatever you can let her go if you want. We usually just go on and clean them and hatch the eggs out though, their chance for survival is better in my garage than it is on the river bank. I raise them up to about 3-4 inches and let them go.

I use chicken gizzards for bait most of the time and set around brush piles on the river. I usually set a couple of turtle lines around the edge and my flathead lines with live bluegills on the deep side. That keeps the turtles in the pile from getting my flathead bait. We're going Saturday to set for turtles and flatheads.

Redneck--about a 2/0 hook, wire leader (I use electric fence line) and trotline cord for your line. Tie them off to the bank around brush piles and undercut banks. In lakes and ponds I tie about 2 feet of line off to a milk jug and throw them around the bank. If you have a turtle the next morning most of the time they will be right up on the bank in the mud. Just make sure you mark your personal info on all of your lines.
