Went up to my buddys pond late yesterday. Fish were not on a good bite but I kept hearing a large bullfrog in one corner where some cattails grow. It took a bit of searching but I found him. Lowered a cricket down and bopped him on the nose. He jumped on that cricket and the fight was on. I have had fair size fish that didn't put up as much of a fight but I managed to get him landed and in hand. I found out bullfrog lip's are very tough, I had to use a pair of needle nose to get the hook out and bent it beyond futher use. I set that frog down in the grass and it took two jumps and hit water. Maybe I will go frog fishing again someday...:D

A friend of mine sits around a farm pond in the summer and will cast topwater mice up on the bank:confused:. Wears 'em out too:eek:. You can almost hit them in the head and they still attack it. I am going to try to catch a few next time I'm at my neighbors pond..:D

I've seen them fishing for frogs on TV.
They were using a crappie type pole with a fly made from a hook and piece of red yarn.
Lower it down in front of a big ol' bullfrog and it was all over.

a cane pole, 12 feet of 20lb line and a piece of red rubber worm works great. just dangle it in front of them and hang on....:D

I've used plastic worms dragging them across the moss and catching the bull frogs this way.

Never even crossed my mind. :D:D I'm gonna have to try that but do you really need 20lb line? LOL

20 lbs test line will be too light if the frogs are able to get into cattails

I got into that years ago as a teen one day while fishing - I was casting close to the banks of a pond using an old ABU spinner when I cast across a limb which a frog was setting under - not meaning to do nothing but retreave my bait back, when I reeled up tp the limb the frog jumped out and nailed the spinner then hit the pond - believe you me a hooked frog fights as hard as any fish - I then started doing that on purpose throwing my bait close to frogs and slowly move it in front of them - it's an absolute blast - I still do that some along with gigging and bowfishing - it's not as hard as it sounds to bowfish for them either - just use an older bow, fish arrows fitted with the tip that has the w shaped wire and anywhere you hit a frog it sticks like leather - only trick is holding the light between your legs while you draw and shoot but now there is headlamps for that

I bowfish for bullfrogs and after a couple of times and the frogs got smart and would swim to the middle of the pond when they saw me coming too close to the water

you are so right but the ones that do not want to be shot will put distance between themselves and the danger, hitting a target the size of a bullfrog at 40' was not for me to do
