I feel like we really do need a group or association for Ky waterfowlers. Everyone seems to have a problem with the management of our public lands, seasons, and the money spent by the state for fish and game. Over the past 3 years, as most of you know, has been some of the worst waterfowl hunting we've experienced. Alot of factors are involved that have been discussed on this forum. Alot of people have commented on doing something. I think its time for us to do something (I know weather has alot to do with it, but there are other things I feel that need to be addressed).
I don't have any clue as to starting some kind of organization, but I would be willing to help start one in any way I can. My 1st contribution would be a name. I searched the web and found no organiztion using this name:
Kentucky Waterfowlers Association
Lets discuss this, give it some thought, and see what we as waterfowlers can do to maybe help our sport and our passion. I'm sure there will be alot of respones. Lets try and work together on this. If we get enough people interested, we can start a web site like on yahoo groups or something and start discussing it there so we don't clog up this forum.
But lets get some interest going here 1st. Can we as a group make a difference? I think so. Lets hear what you have to say.

I started a new group in yahoo. Not much there at the moment, but I will be working on it. Feel free to join if you want. As far as an official organization, I don't have a clue, but hope this is a start. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

There are guys over on wf.com that are trying to officially get the ball rolling on this and are talking over an initial meeting date and location, they've even looked into starting up a 501c(3) organization. Someone that knows more about the official workings of an organization like that needs to take a lead role, otherwise it just comes off as a bunch of disgruntled duck hunters that get together to blow off steam.

You guys going to affiate with the LKS. If so, you'll need any resolutions submited before March 15 to be heard at the convention this year. Might run you short on time???

I would help organize such an organization, there are quite a few hunters who are very interested in organizing for a more unified voice in Frankfort. The LKS Convention could be a good spot to have a meeting for those interested in forming an association.

I would be willing to prepare the paperwork to file the org. as a non profit corporation with the Ky Secretay of State.
Look at Waterfowler.com Ky discussion forum Ky. Waterfowler's Association . There is a pretty long thread that talks about Why what and alittle of how.
Also info on this forum "why aren't there many ducks anymore" a lot of guys talking there also.
Lets do something!!

Pintail, the guys that aren't members over there can't see inside the threads, only the topics.

The group I started on yahoo is a good place to start for gathering a list of people interested. The guys over at wf.com have some people that have some know how when it comes to this. But it is still alot of talk, and the one thing they seem to agree on is to compile a list of potential members. By joining the yahoo group you in know way commit to anything. When the time comes for an official registration, we will have a place to start for members. Hope all that are interested in seeing an official KWA will join the group and show the people with the know how that they will not be wasting their time, that they have the people to back them. Sorry, when typing I sometimes refer to the yahoo group as my group, I created it but I believe it belongs to all of us. I will try and refrain from MY, and use, THE or OUR group. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kentuckywaterfowl/

Welcome aboard, right now the thing we need is more members. Promote it. We have to start somewhere. The more that join shows the guys in the know that we are serious and they will have the backing they will need. All the things we see wrong with waterfowling in KY won't see any change without sheer numbers of people or major finaces. I for one, like most of you, am not Mr. Moneybags. Therefore we need numbers. Thank you for joining. Membership is growing, painfully slow, but it is growing and thats what we need.

Guys, I'll be happy to help you. I'm an attorney and the former state president of the NWTF, and a bronze DU sponor. I'm also Chair of the Kentucky Progress Committee, which specifically deals with urban/suburban sprawl. That is an outgrowth of the Governor's Smart Growth Task Force, of which I was a member and chaired its Agriculture,Wildlife and Environmental Committee.
I've served as president of four seperate 501(c)(3) organizations, by the way, and I've formed about half a dozen, and served on the boards of several more.
I would echo the thoughts about joining CyberHunters and the LKS. Absolutely.
