Rabbit dogs

I was wondering if anybody knew of any dogs besides beagles that made excellent rabbit dogs? How do they compare to beagles in the field etc...?

Bassets are making a come back -- at least the ones the AKC did not ruin. Dauchund (sp) will hunt rabbits as well as beagle/terrier mixes. Them guys hung up on papers may disagree, but them wolves got to the beagle by someone messing with different breeds to get a beagle.

Oh my gosh -- Todd, been a long time. I did not know if you stuck with beagles. I jumped the bridge to IN and about lost touch with everything. Them pups are now 5 or so years old and doing fine. Hope yours are well. Email me sometime and we'll go run dogs, though I get a little busy with work this time of the year (accountant stuff), but I'd like to see your hounds run.
