Over the winter I hinge cut about 100 young beech trees that are competing with more valuable hardwood trees. I pushed them together and created some real thick areas in open woods.
Here's some of the results.

Never heard of this with beech. I've done it for years with cedar. Great for rabbits.

You can get more life out of them if you cut a large notch ( > )out of one side and then fall them that direction. It will seal up the cut, it the outer rings match, they can actually graft themselves together. You'll need someone to help you do this, they will need to either use a push pole or rope to keep from pinching the saw.

Good looking brush piles. They should produce you some critters.

Looks nice, I had planned to do the same this spring but it's not going to work out. I'm hoping with some hinge cutting, and about 10 acres of NWSG going in next Spring, the deer will having all kinds of bedding.
