KDFWR COMMISSION SELECTS WATERFOWL SEASON DATES
Frankfort, KY, August 27, 2002- The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission set the 2002-2003 waterfowl seasons at its quarterly meeting August 23 in Frankfort. The Fish and Wildlife Commission recommends all hunting, fishing and boating regulations for approval by the General Assembly and approves all expenditures by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR). The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission must place waterfowl seasons in the framework mandated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service because all migratory game birds are under federal control.
Ducks, Coots and Mergansers:
The duck season will run for 60 consecutive days from November 28, 2002 (Thanksgiving Day)through January 26, 2003, statewide. The bag limits are the same as last season.
The season dates for mergansers and coots are the same as duck season dates for the 2002-2003 season. The daily bag limit for mergansers is five, only one of which may be a hooded merganser. The daily limit for coots is 15.
The season on pintail ducks is December 28, 2002 through January 26, 2003. The daily limit is one pintail duck.
There will be no hunting for canvasback ducks during the 2002-2003 waterfowl seasons due to a decline in numbers.
