Last year I planted a small 1/4 acre plot with some biologic but wasn't satisfied with the mix, size, or germination of the plot. So this year I planted a new plot about 1/16 of an acre a little ways off that I had before. It had some fescue growning in it so I prepared the ground and seeded with about 3 lb. of oats. The plot that I had last year I expanded to 1 acre. and I'm going to seed it with oats, red cloves, and white clover. Also both have a fence running along the far side from where my treestands are. So I'm going to plant a couple of rows of sunflowers for the doves down through there. Just wondering what you guys thought!

The 1 ac plot, when are you going to seed that? Its a little late to plant clover. It will get taken over by weeds. Id put something else in for the summer like soybeans then plant the oat/clover mix in the fall.

I was going to plant this week! I'm hopeing the oats will hold off the weeds! I had a plot here last year and didn't have any problem with weeds! I just had the problem that the deer was eating before it could grow. and then it was bare! I thought that the oats would come up quick and the deer could work on that while the clover was coming on! I've had luck with this approach before! Last year I planted the biologis in the fall and I think that was where the mistake was. It was so dry and then it turned off cold before it could get going!

I agree with al i would plant soybeans then plant the oats clover mix about the end of august first of september. thats when i did my clover/birdsfoot trefoil plot last year and its looking great. but of course its a perennial.
