Well it's obvious Pandora's box has sprung open. My question is....Is it legal to use an Elk call on the "border counties"?

Knowing the terrain and haveing seen Elk being bugled in at far distances on the Outdoor Channel I wonder how many "deer hunters" will be packing Elk calls on the border co"s.

If they are[Elk] close to the line who says they won't be "sucked over" the line. We do not need this to happen. If I thought of it and don't care much about the issue who else has thought of it?

Also the beginning of bow season is right about the time they rut right?

Food for thought.

Drivers and shooters.....The way I read it, there is no limit--either sex. I remember being a driver at Ft.Knox one year. Three shooters killed 22 deer and everybody got one. Probably work for elk too!

I say, if you can call em over, then you can bag em.

We already know we have the largest free ranging herd on the east coast (I think thats right), and the quantity that actually could be harvested this way is most likely very low. I doubt enough could be killed this way to have even a small impact (just my opinion) so why not. If they are in calling range they would probably end up outside the buffer area anyway.

If anyone has evidence that this could hurt the restocking program then I say NO WAY, but as I see it the herd could absorb the loss of a few that some lucky son of gun actually called over.

Put it this way. If I was bordering a "buffer" county and one walked under my tree...BANG! Elk jerky for everyone!

Does anyone think this could impact the herd?

If you're hunting a border county along outside of the buffer next fall, by all means take your elk calls! If you can call one in, congratulations! Then the work begins!

How freaking hard is it going to be to drag a 600lb plus elk up the off a WMA. How will I ever get it up in the truck. This no driving rule has to have an exception for elk. And I'm not leaving home without a comealong and a hoist. Seems like I heard an urban myth one was suppoted on the bluegrass parkway. I'm gonna go practice the 30-06 tomorrow.

Oh yah next year. I'm not going to take it until next year.

Neslon/Spencer counties are looking like prime areas for runaways.
I have been known to use an elk bugle to shock gobble turkeys. Maybe a few are on the way.

Shogan, Do you have a sun roof? You can hang out of it on the parkway and elk hunt with that cannon. Just don't hit dads house. Those are not elk penned up in the back yard. I swear!<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Which are the buffer counties anyway? This is a must to know! Am I corect in understanding that next year elk may be taken outside the buffer counties with a gun? What about a bow or smoke pole during their season?
