I have yet to get a bird!! Ever!! I want my first one to be with a bow, where i hunt deer is mostly woods not any fields, will this be a good place to turkey hunt i see sign all the time. I know their there. Are most birds killed in woods or fileds? Going to invest in a blind also!

A blind is the way to go with a bow. Hens like to nest around and in fields, gobblers will be where the hens are. In your neck of the woods if fields are few, choose an old logging road. This is a natural travel route as well as strut zone.

Set you blind with the sun to your back, and only open windows on the shooting side.

Birds like to roost on steep slopes over water. They can be called uphill easier than downhill. DOn't get too close to setup, if you hear them good they can certainly hear you.

Don't call too much, if they gobble at your call, use it sparingly, wait till he gobles then give him a series of yelps. Decrease your call volume with each answer, making him think you are leaving...

Most importantly, even with a bow, the best aiming point is the head and neck. I shoot at the wattle area of the neck. Sure it's a smaller target than the whole turkey, but it's basically the same size as the vitals, and you can see where it is.

A 1" miss means another chance at least another day if not then, a 1" miss shooting at the body and you've killed a bird never to be found.

I've taken over 20 with a bow, I've shot them in the neck, back and the sides and the rear. I've had 3 birds shot through the spine between the legs and wings into the heart that still flew over 200 yards. Ive had birds shot through the sides into the vitals that still ran over 100 yards. I've had a couple that went 10 feet and fell over. The neck/head is the only way to go.

Don't give up!If you hang in there you WILL get it done!I think the best teaching I had about turkey hunting was learning from my mistakes. After many years I still make mistakes so I am still learning.Good luck!

I think the most important thing in turkey huntin is to be patient...alot of people get a gobbler goin and then itll shut up on em and they think they have to move,by that time usually hes on is way and will bust you when you move unless he already has hens...so be patient and wait em out even though its hard too
