Not a real good pic. He had 1 hair that made it to 15 3/4", (couldn't run the camera and stretch it out too) couple more that went 14" or more. The second beard was 4 3/4". Weighed 20#, only had 3/4" spurs.

hmmmmmm........... you mean if a couple strands make it that long it still counts as lets say a 15" beard????? i always just measure to where the most of them tend to end.. i didnt' know that you counted each lil strand

In thje early 90's I had the number two bird in the state on the books. The official scorer counted the longest strand. I don't know ifthat's the right way, but it's what he did and it put me in the book for a little while. Congrats, limbhanger on a fine bird.

yea thats how we have always measured them. By the longest hair. nice bird. My dad killed a nice bird the other day. It had a 10 1/2 inch beard and a little over 1inch 1/8 spurs.

not saying its the case with your bird but i have seen and even did the stretching out the beard only to have a strand or two come loose making it look much longer..
Nice Bird

lets see, if I grow 1 hair on my chin to 20 inches but the rest it 3/8 then I can consider tht I have a 20 inch beard???????? The majority should rule in my opinion.

thats what i'm thinking... I killed a tom with 3 beards once, if i would have counted the longest strands, it's hard telling what it would have measured out, his main beard had a few strands that were extremely long, longer than in that pic, but i never would have dreamed to count single strands lol

Only if you are going to be scored for NWTF, their rules, not mine. From NWTF.....
http://www.nwtf.org/all_about_turkeys/how_to_score.html
"Measure the beard length (a beard must be measured from the center point of the protrusion of the skin to the tip) and convert it to decimal form."

Everything that I have ever read indicates to measure the longest strand.

When I killed him, he was standing in muddy creek bottoms, completely covered the underside w/ mud. I washed the mud out of the beard, even lost a few hairs by doing that, so no blood/mud holding the beard together.

always measure the longest strand. NWTF rules not bragging rights :)

Get a BIG arm load of 3' sticks and one that is 6'. Try going through a 4' door without turning sideways. Which rules, the longest or the majority.

That's an awesome analogy!
I killed this one yesterday.
It had a 14 1/2" stray.

If you happen to be a turkey, and wish to know how your beard will be accurately measured.....ummm, yeah. :D

Nice bird GSP, what did he weigh? spurs? Is that a double beard?
Kinda looks like the "majority" says measure the longest hair.

Last year the world record beard was measured at 22.5 inches. It was thick and long but only a few strands were 22.5 inches.

again its not all about the longest beard it's just a plus to the hunt when it happens. But JMO longest hair is the measurement.Any bird is a nice bird though.
