To get an accurate report, I think it depends on where you are hunting in th state. I have hunted 3 different areas and the birds have been a little different in all three areas especially on feeding habits. I'm sure there are other areas of the state which are different then what I have experienced. Maybe you can tell us what part of the state you will be hunting and maybe the information will be more valuable. As for me, in north central KY the birds I hunted gobbled good on the roost then got quiet shortly after or at fly down. Not much gobbling action after that and most good birds are with small groups of hens. I have seen a lot of action in the fields early then in the woods later in the day. Moving to east central, gobbling on the roost a little with an occasional loud mouth but very quiet the rest of the day as a general rule. Spending most of their time in the woods and grouped up with hens. Eastern Ky had lots and lots of gobbling on the roost and then all was quiet the rest of the day and they are with small groups of hens feeding in the woods also. As of yesterday though I noticed a few single hens looking for nests around 9ish. The ole bird I was hunting at the time got a little loney for a second and started gobbling a little (cost him his life):D. For me it seems to be pretty challenging this year and I think they are about 10 days behind what I normally experience, at least from a hens perspective in a typical year. I think that cold snap we had held them off or placed them on hold for more days than normal. Again, it could different depending upon where you are hunting. Good luck!

Went this AM near BG. Gobbled their heads off from the roost and when they hit the ground. Two gobblers strutted on a hill with about 5 hens until 9 then hit the woods. Saw another gobbler strutt by himself? Dont know why. Calls didn't work for him neither did the jake fan. He just walked away. The group that we saw we got the gobblers to gobble about every five to ten minutes. Coyotes broke in between us and they lit them on fire. The toms hammered down repeatedly when the yotes were out in front of us.

This is natures way of spreading out the hatch to protect it from bad weather. Birds may vary from farm to farm. Birds may be henned up where you hunt & 2 miles down the road gobblers are running to anything that sounds like a yelp. My guess is most hens are 3/4 the way thru nesting & perhaps a few are nesting.

I've hunted in Metcalfe, Barren and Monroe and for me anyway it's been the same - gobble on roost then by 7-8 no more sounds

Late morning has been very productive this week. I've seen 3 birds hit the ground between 9-11:15 in the last 3 days.
