How do you all go about evening hunts, Also, if you dont really know where the turkeys are roosting in you area, do you call much or just set and wait.

Hunted the past 2 days...ALL DAY!!!!! LONGEST DAYS OF MY LIFE!! Hunted with a buddy on a couple farms he has & the only way to hunt this place is sticking out a decoy & deer hunting turkeys. Hunted from first lite til noon or so, then from 1-7. My god, thats is simply not the way i like to hunt. Never heard a bird gobble after 8 either of the past three days. The hardwood riges on the place were of virgin timber, so a turkey could see for hundreds of yards. Had to set-up in the fields either above the birds, or below. Afternoon hunting is pretty much field huntin, as they will head there. You could also hunt near a known roosting area in hopes of calling & luring a bird b4 he heads to the roost. Turkeys don't talk much in the pm, tho u may hear a yelp or two near sunset. Early morning type calling will come off unnatural to a gobbler. Leaf scratching, purring, & a cluck or two would be best. Best of luck & pack a good seat!

Welcome to the forums...............I cant help you much on the evening hunts as I only hunt morning to mid afternoon. If you do not not were they are roosting you need to do some scouting you have to be were they are to kill them. I call very little and sometimes not at all I use decoys and once one gobbles back and he knows were I am I shut up and wait............

I have set up on routes known to be traveled to roosting sites and just wait it out with no calling or decoy - hunted today from light till 2:30 only heard 1 bird off from me briely and I gave up -- you can only look at trees so long

Bushwack them. Watch a couple of afternoons and see where the birds are using in the afternoon and either sneak in between where they want to go and the birds or wait them out in a regularly used spot. Have killed majority of my birds after 11:00. The ones that were called in came in during mid day hours after hens have left gobblers, but have been noticing that in my area hens aren't nesting yet and gobblers are staying with them on day. Now if I could only hunt the farm next to the one i have to hunt now then the big one would be down. It has been hanging out in the same area since a week and a half before season. Hens always close by.
