I killed mine at 7:07am est on 4-12, went home & got the boy. He took care of business and stoned his first turkey...a jake! I had to get the 4 year old birdie and allow him to get in the pics as well!
We arrived at the Marion Co farm at 10am and set up in a 3 week old food plot (clover, orchard grass & biologic for deer). We put out 2 decoys (hen & jake). The hen was blown from her stake...it didn't matter. We had 2 birds respond to a crow call and between winds gusts of 20-30 mph, I hit the slate and got 3-4 different birds to respond. After 30 minutes we had 3-4 birds within 50-60 yds, but could not see'em. Then I got a dad's worst nightmare..."Dad I'm cold and ready to go home." I said "WWWHHAATTTT? We Can't leave we have birds all over us!" He insisted...so we came to a compromise and decided to get up...leave the hot birds...and go for a walk. We walked 100yds up and down a few Marion Co hills and he got warm. I stopped to call on the up hill side of a blown over tree and a bird errupted 25 yards down the hill on the other side of the tree. We sat on 2 seperate trees and he aimed his gun solo http://www.refugeforums.com/ubb/eek.gif at the root wad. 30 seconds later a long beard stepped out...he was shakin like a leaf and coudln't get a shot...the tom gobbled once and eased back down the hill...2 jakes on the other hand had love on their mind...one found lead!
