I was out hunting mushrooms recently. While walking a creek bed, I started looking at the gravel. I noticed an awful lot of flint chips. Then, laying right on top, was an arrow head(spear point?). The more I looked, the more flint chips I found. I then found what I believe is a worn point. Then a large, broken point. A lot of the rocks in the creek are covered in a fine black "slime". Possibly algae? I can wash the stain off only to have it appear as soon as the piece is dry. The area where found was settled by pioneers in the 1830's. One old timer has told us the area was fallow Indian grounds when his people arrived. They just took over because of cleared fields and springs were already established.

The nice point matches the flint chips in the area. The damaged or unfinshed point matches the rest. The large point does not match the other material. It almost looks like granite when wet.

Given the amount of chips everywhere, have I found a workshop? Would the Indians have camped out at a flint supply?

If you do a search there is a great arrowhead thread on here. The grounds you are on was most likley hunting grounds for a long time. Possibly many diffrent types of indians settled there at diffrent time periods to camp and hunt. Indians would camp were they had the most resources when they were used up they moved on. The stain on the points you have found is called creek stain. The nicer point you have in your hand appears to be a morrow mountain point from the middle archaic era 6000-3000 BC it seems you may be on great hunting grounds for relics if you need help let me know :)

You could probably brush those pieces with a little bleach to get that stain out.

Great find man.

If it is creek stain it will not come off and it adds to the value of the piece should you ever want to sell it. NEVER clean your arrowheads too much.
